price check and opinions on a local '13 M5

Hello all. After driving the same car for 14 years I'm finally considering a new car. Now that I'm (considerably) older, I'm looking for something that's still fast, but bigger and nicer. I've been looking at '12-14 C63s and M3s, but I've also always really liked M5s and there happens to be one local that looks pretty good. I don't know this dealer, but the reviews across the sites are quite good (grain of salt, obviously).

Any thoughts on the price, and anything about it that might be concerning?

link to the listing

thanks in advance!

quick rundown:

$38K
31K miles
Silverstone II
DCT

and here's what the virtual window sticker lists for options:

black full marino leather
driving assistance package
executive package
20" M Wheel 343 M w/perf nonrft

no B&O sound, which is a bit of a bummer, but not a deal breaker.

if it's a 2015 then it's a good price.

2013-2014 I would try to go down to 35k if possible

Thanks! Sorry, I put it in the title but not the post, it's a 2013. '14s seem to have a pretty big jump in the asking price (I'm assuming because of the LCI), and 15s another bump from there. Unless there's a compelling non-visual reason (outside of CP), I'm not sure the extra $s are worth it for me.

I had originally thought i'd be able to pick up an aftermarket warranty if I wanted, but after reading more around here, it sounds like that won't be an option. As such, my biggest hesitation on an older out of warranty M5 is potentially getting butt-rammed on stuff breaking. From what I've read the F10 seems to be fairly reliable, and I don't plan on tuning it, but how scared should I be? I drive <10K miles a year and am fairly handy and willing to do stuff myself*, so I'm hoping at least the regular stuff won't be terrible.

*not that I'd do it with an M5, but as an example, I once did a tranny swap in my garage with the help of a mechanic friend. I've also swapped out a differential (PITA on an '01 cobra), exhaust, and all the regular maintenance type stuff.

I bought my 2015 M5 CP this year with 64k miles for 44k

I also bought 3 year 30k miles warranty for 5k

I'm pretty sure you can find warranty for yours too (for the right price)

From reading what people say, seems like injectors, coils usually go bad.

Some had oil consumation, rear rattle in 2013-2014 models

I highly suggest getting 2015+ because that's when they fixed most of the issues.

if you can't afford it, then i guess just buy the warranty or fix everything yourself. I wouldn't be too scared, these cars are not too hard to work on, I see everything on youtube for them.

much appreciated, thanks! I'm not in a rush, so happy to walk away if it doesn't feel right (price or otherwise), but having one that looks good for sale within 40m miles of me in southeast Michigan is probably fairly rare, so definitely want to check 'er out.

yep, $35k would be a decent deal for you...actually, not having B&O, I'd get them down to $34k if you can. $35 would be for a B&O car. I'm also in the market and this seems to be what I'm seeing.

thank you. I'm likely gonna go check this out (along with a C63 they have) tomorrow.

question: I'm not a huge fan of front license plates and both this and the C63 happen to have . I see there's plenty of videos and "bumper plugs" and whatnot, but how well do they actually work, particularly on an older car like this?

edit: they also have a'14 M6 grand coupe with 59K miles, exec pkg, B&O, etc. listed at $39K which I'll have to check out. not sure what a good price is for that, though.

I would get that m6 for sure no question asked. 39k is a great price. Make sure it got a clean carfax.

I don't have front plate but might put it on the hook hole, they sell brackets on eBay

don't buy c63, it's boring. my brother just traded his

Post the link to the dealer please! I've been looking primarily for an M5, but only because I didn't think M6's had dipped into the 30's yet. If you pass on that car, I'd like to consider it.

I see the m6 your talking about. Listed for 40k.

White on platinum with b/o.

Unique color combo. I'd personally have to pass as the platinum interior doesn't do it for me. But if that m5 and that m6 were my only two choice I'd pick the m6.

C63 I wouldn't consider at all. I had a 13 was a awesome car. But doesn't compare to m5 or m6. I traded my 13 c63 in two years ago on my first 13 m5. The technology and everything in the c class is old. That motor was sweet as was the exhaust note and reliability but the mpg was terrible. Stick to the //M

thanks for your input! I'm not huge on the m6 interior, either, and i'd be afraid of how dirty I'd get it.

there is also a low-milage Sakhir orange M5 with B&O at a local BMW dealership. It looks pretty clean and I secretly really like the sahkir orange exterior, but they want $47.5K for it. They were pretty defensive of the price (surprise!) but I can't imagine it's worth nearly that much for any reason. thoughts?

That is a bit high; maybe they think Sakhir is rare? It might be, but I've seen more than a few. Go in there and make them an offer; leave your name and number and the offer. If they get desperate to sell, they'll call you.

Went and test drove this one yesterday and man, I did love it. It's very clean, good color combo, just seems like the price is way out of whack.

It has a pretty good history. 2 owner, but orig. owner had it for ~5K miles total and then it was CPO up until it sold to this dealer in Dec '18. Last owner did add a Corsa exhaust, which adds a bit, but it still seems way high.

What would be a good price to offer on it?

just for reference again, it's this one.

It looks like it has a few cosmetic mods already. It's nice and low miles and if it's clean it will command a premium. However, $47 is way too high. I wouldn't pay more that $42k.

Make sure you buy the warranty through the dealer. A lot of the aftermarket companies that deal direct to the public have stopped covering the M5.

They quoted me $5.2K for a 3y/36K mile warranty through ACS. Not sure if that's an OK price or whether ACS is any good for such warranties. Let me know your thoughts.
