F10 1qt Low On Oil - What To Pour In There?

Hey there, I picked up a used F10 not too long ago, and yesterday I got a alert that it was 1qt low on oil.

Not knowing what particular oil is in there, will there be any issues if I pick up a quart of 5w-30 and pour in there? Rather do that for temporary, instead of doing a full oil change for now.

Additionally, for the folks that don't do their own oil changes. Do you take it anywhere other than a Euro specialized shop and/or a BMW dealership? Oil shops are all around me in my area, but not Euro specializing.

Thanks all!

If not known what oil is in there then it's best to change out for one specific recommended type asap after topping up, it's not good mixing different grades.

Ditto. I would immediately top off with an approved oil but get a full change within the next 100-200 miles. I also recommend getting an oil analysis to help you gauge the engine health.

I change my own oil and I find the used oil filter inspection for any swarf or other debris effective, also I use Bosch filter as it has the extra nylon guaze extension filter to further catch any impurities.
