My car would get Drive Train Malfunction with the SSP filter (also installed SSP Spec-R). I would lose 2, 4, 6. Then as the car comes to a stop all the higher gears (7, then 5, then 3) and finally only have 1st gear. Restart and everything is fine, but then DTM a minute later. Swapped out SSP filter for OEM filter and everything was great, haven't had a problem since.

My view is that its not mechanical nor the sensors (part of the TCU). When I swapped trans, I kept the original TCU... and no issues.

It is possible the valve body assembly deteriorates. I haven't done much research but the valve body that pumps oil to facilitate the 4-5 shift may be getting clogged or have some inherent weakness. So, the shaft doesn't move correctly and throws a code. If it was mechanical the symptoms will be different. Upon inspection of my DCT, there were NO obvious mechanical issues

Very interesting fine... perhaps if a full trans flush is done with new OEM filters this could greatly improve if not fully eliminate this issue.. kind of like a artery Cleanout ahhahaha

I had this issue also. Except I didnt go as far as driving around with the SSP filter installed. When the installer told me the car would not complete the relearn process after the filter was put in, I had him leave it out. This was done when I was having the SSP specR clutches put in. Zero problems with OEM filter and SSP clutches.

I contacted Kris and will send the filter back for him to look at.....havent gotten around to it yet.

I'm thinking it's a software issue. A computer is probably seeing to much torque in this gear. I say a computer because I don't know which one but its most likely the one people aren't tuning. So it's probably the dct ecu that's not liking the torque value for that gear.

It isn’t torque values - I tried stock flash and various power/boost levels and once the problem occurs it occurs at all power levels.

Interesting, I have installed 3 SSP Spec-R DCT clutches along with the cooling system upgrades and have not experienced this with any of the cars.

I have a research paper on the BMW DCT if anyone is interested - you can learn everything about its design and operation. It's around 1.7MB

I'll be curious how your gears hold up, not these computer glitches causing limp modes, but actually losing a part.

For GTrs they are quite capable at holding power, but when they get hot (repeated pulls) thats when even the strong/ lucky ones go.

Might be worth giving that a try with yours since you're the platform test mule lol

Everynight i am hunting through pages of dct threads. Had ssp spec r clutch fitted 9weeks ago and car never made it out the workshop. Car is throwing a high pressure fault on clutch 2. Does this when selecting reverse, sometimes (30% going first to second and always going 2nd to first) doesnt actually shift to first either. Gearbox software has been updated. Clutch install and c clips have been checked multiple times. Kris has cleaned the mechatronics unit, car went through the gears before adaptions were done and completed adapations successfully. I have a jb4 (was set to diagnostic map 4) and i have a flash tune. Going to try flashing car to stock and after that seems i may be needing to install another box. Using new bmw oil and filter since mechatronics was sent back. Im reading about clutch line pressure beig affected by flashes or jb4 and im seeing alot about these rod errors. Only case of high pressure i could find also had rod error and turned out to be c clips mixed up. I cant find any cases matching my issues. Never had any issues with box previous to this.

I would replace the valve body assembly. Mechatronics is unlikely to be the cause as it is mostly a bunch for sensors.

Thanks for reply i was tempted to message you but dont really know you to be bombarding your inbox with questions. The valve assembly is what kris cleaned for me said it looked really clean (car has alot of miles as well 50k) guess its not just a case of cleaning and when they fail thats it. Secondhand box for its valve assembly seems to be the likely fix.

Dodson just released a new line with more clutches for our DCT which is supposed to hold more power the SSP and be as smooth. The old ones made the car drive like shit. Know one guy who has them on his car right now and said they drive like stock. However, the SSP spec R with baskets is what I have and can say they are proven to work well.
