Bootmod3 Tunning Questions

Hello M5/Bootmod3 owners. I’m new to the M5 platform and just purchased a BM3 tune. A couple questions if i may...

1. I’ve read on forums I need a battery charger to flash? This is new as when I’ve done a flash on my previous cars GT-R and S4 I didn’t need a battery charger.

2. I live in Washington and we have 92 octane. Would it be safe to run the 93 OTS tune instead of 91. If I do chance it with the 93 OTS tune, is there a knock safety feature that cuts boost or adjust timing?

Thanks in advance.

you can flash without a charger. but when the fuel pump kicks in towards the end of the flash it draws a lot of amps (I forget the actual figure) which then if the volts of the battery get low the car will start shutting down various ECU's to save power which then can cause the flash to be incomplete and the car won't start or be able to finish loading the tune. They say it so that the can't be held liable if something goes wrong. I flashed mine a couple of times without a charger and it was fine. But I bought a charger to do it so may as well use it every time now.

If I were you I would start off with the 91 tune and then run the best gas you can
