2000km service done yesterday!
Tried WOT today..........
Slight rain and DSC cut in at 170 km/h.....
This is a serious monster that has to be treted with repect.

This is a true monster! I find it more difficult to drive agressively than the V10. It delivers the monstrous torque so quick and easy that it sometimes overwhelmes you. And takes you by surprise. You really have to think twice before switching off DSC..........
Overtook two trucks, in just a couple of seconds. In second gear just abeem the first one at 120 km/h, there I had soo much torque that the rear wheels broke loose.... small narrow road and had left rear wheel very close to the gravel.
Scary! In the V10 the power delivery is more linear and there are not soo much torque. Easier to control IMO.

But donīt misunderstand me - I love this car. Torque is addictive

So I guess I have to take it a little careful before getting used to this turbo engine / torque monster?

Yes, a big big difference when driving really fast on the autobahn.
The M5 pulls much harder than the Hartge 550. And as You know - the 550 with that tune is really fast.

Todays best kill - tuned 997 turbo. He didnīstand a chance!
M5 just walked away from him at + 200 km/h. Raced all the way up to 313 km/h.

Managed some laps on the Nürburgring also. Very impressive performance from the M5, considering itīs weight. I was surprised by the good grip.

Today we managed to get a lap in the Ring Taxi!
Wow! The M5 can really be driven fast around the ring. Amazing grip, and very little understeer when driven by a pro.

cidair,
Coming from the M3, is the M5 the correct decision? I live in the States and have 2011.5 M3 E90 and am drooling over a M5 via European Delivery. My only concern is in the handling department. The M3 sticks to the road very well as you know. With the weight and size of the M5, will I still have the thrill and confidence during high speed cornering?

Cheers and congratulations.

Good stuff Cid, it suprises me that you say it is much faster then the hartge 550. I know it would be faster but I thought the difference would be subtle.

I went up to the ring with my 550 on 15.04.12 and did 4 laps. I also did a lap in the ring taxi, wow, it was absolutely breathless and incredible the grip, it was an amazing experience.

I am still kicking around the M5 or wait for the new M3. I just cant make up my mind. Enjoy that M5 Beast! You will have to let me know if you head to the ring again, its only 2 hours from my home. Did you get some photos, I found three good ones from the photographers.

Yes, You will. Itīs very fun to drive on twisty roads. Very high grip, but itīs ofcourse heavy. Not as nimble as the M3, but itīs compensating with so much more power!

I had both the 550 and M3, which I sold, and now got the M5.
Itīs like merging those two cars into one.

I guess the new M3 will be lots of fun. My guess is around 470hp and lots of torque. Lighter than the M5 ofcourse.

Tough decision, but the M5 is a brutal beast. Did some spirited driving on twisty German back roads today. Fantastic handling. So much fun.

Itīs not only the power, but the total feel that is a big difference compared to a 550. You are much more conntected to the road. You feeel the car better. As You know the suspension is very different on the M5. Makes a big difference. It actually feels like a big M3.
