Widest tires possible

Time to replace my rear tires. I am running a remap which has made it difficult to get the increased power down and I want to go as wide as possible on existing 343 rims to handle the power increase.

1. Can I run 305s in the back and 265s in the front or do I need to increase the front tires to 275s.

2. Does 305/30/20 rear, 275/35/20 front sound right?

3. Michelin PSS And Pirelli P zeros only available options to fit?

Recommended minimum width for 305 is 10.5". Unfortunately the 343M is 10".

Go for aftermarket wheels. FWIW, I've seen a 345 on Morr wheels fit in back, and was still tucked inside the fender well. That's some serious rubber...

I have 11 inch HREs on the rear. Fronts are 9 inches. How wide can I go in the back and what should the matching fronts then be?

You can do 315/30 or 305/30 rears and match them with 275/35 or 265/35 fronts. I'm in the same position (9" front and 11" rear). Once my 295/30 rears are toast, I'm gonna swap them for 305/30 and keep my 265/35 fronts.

Just fitted Pirelli P Zeros 305/30/20s on my stock 343 M5 rims. Hope this works out as I was thinking of going for the Corsas..but they cost double..

Just to say the 305s feel great! Excellent grip and handling feels great. Not sure why these tires weren't fit stock?

That's good news. So it helped the traction issue?

Yes - can get the power down a lot more easily and smoothly. Feel it's a better tire handling wise. I think $250 per tire wasn't too bad either.

Where did you get tires for $250? I got mine for $350 and since after 4k the tread left is less than 50% I need to get another set soon...

At my local tire store here in SLO. $250 per rear tire, $80 for alignment.

Great to hear it worked out. Is your car lowered ? spacers ? I'm concerned with rubbing...

Other than 305s...I'm also considering R888 315 on my stock 343 rims...Anxious to hear your thoughts !

No issues on 343 rims with 305/30/20 tires. Not sure if the M5 stock rim can take wider tire..

It's not a matter of fitting or not, but more like a safety or performance issue I guess. Manufacturers give recommended values for a reason.

Hella flush guys have been running stretch tires for years but is it safe? Somewhat I'd say. If you go the other way and run too large, the tire might not perform as well as it should on a recommended wheel width.

Thanks..maybe..but so far it's been an awesome improvement..whereas before the back would come loose..now it digs in great..

I'll get this checked. If it's an issue I will report back. If it is I'll get the M6 343M mag wheel..I hear it fits great on the M5. Question I have on that front is why does the M6 also run 295s in the rear

I can answer you on this
1. wear life.
The wider tire means more contact and less wear life. I had my original 295 tires for about 14 months. Now after 6 months on 305, today I figured out the tread left is about 4/32". I need new tires in 1-2 months!
2. Cornering.
As you mentioned (and I agree) the traction is significantly better, but in turns/cornering car is not as agile as it was on 295 which was predictable.
3. DD intention.
M5/M6 are meant to be DD car and not track car. Not everybody wants to launch M5/M6 every day so they don't need 305 while 295 is better fit for daily driving.

However, I take 305 over 295(due to traction improvement). I will go for another 305 again. unfortunately MPSS 315/30/20 is not available. If it was, I would go for it
