Imola Red M5

A few weeks ago I picked up this gem.

2014 M5 Competition Pack, apparently with a special story, but that needs to be confirmed.
Imola Red, black leather with Merino red stitching, and more or less all the bell's and whistles BMW had to offer in 2014. The way it is on the pictures is the way it came from the factory.

According to the seller, this was a car BMW made as a presentation vehicle, it may be part of a very limited production run with this spec, meaning there may be a handful of these out there.

I was looking for a newer car, but I've always had a weak spot for Imola Red, knowing this is very rare, when it popped up on the market, I just had to have it.

Having owned BMW's for 15 years, this is my first M5, though I have had numerous others including M-cars, before the M5 I had a-12 ///M550d touring for 5 years.

While I enjoy the new car, I do have a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me out with.

Instrument cluster:
Does this change color? All my other BMW's have changed from white to orange at night and in tunnels, but the M5 is always white. Is the instrument light supposed to always be white?

Ambient light:
I can see the light over the center console working well, however the one in the door handle, the storage compartments in the doors and under the door trim is barely visible, even when its pitch black (inside my garage with all light off).
I have the idrive and instrument wheel all turned up to max. There is no difference between the Modern white and Classic orange in light level.
Is there a known issue with this?
I know a black interior is not the best, but they were significantly brighter in my old pre-LCI ///M550d, which also had black leather.

Stunning color and incredible spec, she’s a true beauty!

By any chance, did you purchase this car from Germany!
I could swear I saw the advertisement and I was very close to give it a shot!
Anyway, congrats and keep her in good health.

No, this car has been in Norway since 2017, but its twin was for sale in Germany recently (a month ago).

When I bought it it was stated that this was a "BMW presentation vehicle", a person on a Norwegian Facebook site claimed that BMW made a very small series of identical cars. The number of cars is unknown, but probably a handful.
I plan to contact BMW to see if this car has a rather unique story or not.

It could have been used by BMW executives, or as a press launch vehicle for the Competition package or similar.
I will update once BMW provides me with some info.

the build sheet is an interesting read though.

Makes sense, it was for sale about a month ago
I really thought about making an offer, but hesitated too long.
Now I decided to dump money in my current M5

Amazing spec, just a few items missing:
Manual sunshades for rear doors
Rear entertainment system

Anyway, stunning color and perfect spec. Love it!

Thanks!
I'm very happy with it, I can live with this for a few years before I go for either the F90 M5 or the new M8.

I think since it has tinted windows they did not add the manual blinds, I know the rear seat entertainment is "missing", but not something I'll miss.

I will probably do some minor cosmetic mods to it, mostly add black or carbon details.
Been looking at Vorsteiner lip and diffuser, black or carbon wrap on the roof and the small trunk lid spoiler, on the side skirts I will do some M-Performance'ish wrap.
Not a huge fan of black wheels, so a nice set of wheels is on the shopping list.

Nice car! I coded my ambient lighting to 100% it made it a bit brighter. I think the dash is only white, no color options.

Grattis Noggie! Fint!
Good spec list on the car, especially love the red stitching in the leather, must be quite rare.
Will you go to any of the big meetings in the nordics?

Thanks for answering.
I did some searching, and it appears more people has noticed that the instruments no longer changes to orange, apparently this also happened to the M2 LCI. guess it's supposed to be that way.

I tried with my Carly the other day, but I did not find any coding options for my ambient lighting. I guess I'll just have to live with it, or get a company that do coding have a look.

Takk.
Red stitching was a big selling point for me, looks great and is probably very rare.

Not sure about meetings, I haven't been very good at attending BMW meetings since 2006. Only the E31 meetings as I've had one of those for 14 years now.

It's one of 3 almost identical spec cars (identical but one has the alcantara headlining), all originally destined for Germany: D094617, D094638 and D094639.

I dont blame you, absolutely stunning color. I've been on the fence to buy an M4 Convertible and M850i the same color, but when this car came up for sale I jumped on it.

I have the D094639, and my build sheet says
775 INDIVIDUAL ROOF-LINING ANTHRACITE
Sure looks like alcantara to me.

So I may have a special car then?
Do you have any history on the 3 cars, were they used for something special?
I've asked BMW, but so far no reply.

A few more pictures of the interior, and the Ceramic brakes, God I hope I never have to replace those, was quoted over $20.000 for a set of rotors and pad's.
It's great not worrying about brake dust, they don't rust and I know they should last "a lifetime".

Also I think the stance of the wheels are much more aggressive than what I expected, it's the factory installed wheels and no spacers, yet they appear to be much more aggressive than on other M5's with stock setup. Think I need to take them off the car and check the offsets.

Really hope this is not Nouggie's car!

Excerpt from the article posted todat on GTBOARD forum:

Two people were killed in a traffic accident on Wednesday on B 32 at the Wangen-West interchange. A 30-year-old BMW driver wanted to turn left from the A 96 from the south to the Bundesstra ßee towards Ravensburg at around 15.20 o'clock. Suspected due to a driving error, the 30-year-old fell slinging, as a result, came into the opposite lane and collided with the truck of a 53-year-old. Both BMW driver and its 43-year-old passenger suffered fatal injuries during the collision. Two more 20 and 14 year old riders in the backseat suffered serious injuries and had to be recovered from the vehicle wreck by the fire department. They were taken to surrounding clinics by helicopters. The driver of the truck suffered a shock. At the accident site were two emergency doctors, five ambulances with a total of 27 emergency workers and the volunteer fire brigades from Wangen and Amtzell with a total of 31 military workers in action. A crisis intervention team was also deployed locally. In order to clarify the cause of the accident, the prosecutor commissioned a reviewer. The towing service took care of the vehicles involved. During the accident recording, the B 32 and the junction Wangen-West are currently closed until the evening hours. Despite a large-scale diversion, traffic disruptions and back congestion occur.

No it's not me, even though I'm 43 like one of the victims.

Appreciate the concern for my wellbeing.

Horrible accident, my thoughts to the victims and their next of kind.
