Shop scrapped my exhaust.... what to do?

So, had a local shop isntall my Akra and swap my wheels for me. About six months has past and I realized after moving some things in storage that I never picked the OEM exhaust or wheels up.

So I called them today to let them know that I would be coming to pick them up and was told that the wheels are there but they sold the exhaust for scrap to make room in their shop.

I dropped the ball and forgot to pick them up, so I'm torn on whether I should get pissed about this or not....

What would you do?

I don't think you can really blame them for selling it off... I mean 6 months is a pretty long time and space is crucial for them... But would have been nice if they called you to remind you

any specific instruction given prior to your install ? You should feel damn lucky that the shop did not sell your oem wheels to begin with.

Best policy:

Always be clear you want your parts back..
Always pickup your parts same day or next day..

Sucks man. But there are a ton of OEM exhausts out there in shops waiting to be picked up. Hell, call EAS or Trinity out here in SoCal and I bet that they have one or two for you to pickup on the cheap.

This begs the question, are you going back to stock?

BTW, Houston guys are getting together tomorrow if you can make it: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...3#post14864113

No, not at all. Just like to keep my OEM parts for when I sell the car. Parting the car out yields more $$$

They had no right to scrap/sell it. It was their obligation to notify you of such activity before doing so. 6 months or not, that's a $1000 you need to come up with now. They should have your contact info on file from previous business transactions and should have called. I would try and get at least the value of a used exhaust.

Like you said, you dropped the ball. Good thing they kept the wheels. Imagine if every one of their clients left their oem exhaust stored for 6 months. Their business would be much harder due to limited space. It would also be nice if they called you or emailed you a day before they planned on scrapping it. Just my $0.02

You did drop the ball, but it was their responsibility to call you about it. They owe you for the value of the parts they got rid of. Maybe store your OEM wheels in a storage locker after getting the money back.

Many places in the UK have a clause in their terms and conditions of business that stipulate a period of time, usually 30 days, after which any parts left on their site become their property.

Most performance shops have a posted "30 day not responsible for parts not picked up" clause. These guys don't owe you jack.

Ask for reasonable resale value of the exhaust less reasonable storage fees for 6 months for both wheels and exhaust. Seems like a fair compromise.

they don't owe you anything, but if you don't ask, you won't get anything either.

I just took my wheels... figure Im lucky to have those back. I guess I'm just used to my shops that Ive dealt with in California... they would have at least called first. No big deal. Lesson learned!!
