I get that the technology is cool, and it's not as horribly ugly and ungainly as the bloated Model X, but still, just look at it. Honestly, if it was just a 5/8 scale boring Model S, I'd be pushing the wife to get one. But I don't want to see that goofy thing each time I open the garage door.

I feel like we'e seeing different cars? IMO the Model S is one of, if not the, best looking sedans on the road today.

I think the Model 3 looks good, but not as good as the S.

Beyond looking good, they also look like a Tesla-- in an era when every other brand is looking increasingly like every other car on the road.

That's the cool thing about style. For everything I hate, someone seems to love it. I also absolutely hate the Audi A7, but people seem to love pooping dogs on wheels.

I've driven the Tesla and felt so uninspired and disconnected. There is no joy in driving these vehicles. NO engine sound kills it for me. I felt like I was in an empty room with silence. Quite annoying I must say. My niece's boyfriend works for them down in Raleigh and he took us out in a couple...S model and the SUV thing. Kinda cool at first but quickly lost it's zest. No way for me.

I do believe the 3 does need a major overhaul. I have an E92 now and came from a F30. The steering feel in the E92 makes me feel connected to the road with great feedback. The F30 is numb and uninspiring. I believe in the long run BMW will make a huge 3 comeback and blow us away with the next generation. E92, E46, etc. The list starts there with perfection. The way a BMW ought to be.
That's the thing, though-- Tesla isn't competing with the e46/e9X. They're competing with current BMW. Current BMWs drive like ass. As long as you're driving a car with shitty dynamics, why not get some EV benefits out of it?

I PREDICT TESLA WILL BE GONE IN 6 MONTHS!

lol wasn't there a thread like this? Good for Tesla. The car racket needs lots more competition to stir things up. Most everyone I know in Los Angeles either wants a Tesla as their next car or just got a Tesla.

I'm from Toronto but I'm experiencing much the same - there are Model 3's popping up literally everywhere!

They should, but as long as investors continue to throw money at them, bankruptcy plans will have to be put on hold.

Then let us get some more high HP cars with an engine & sweet exhaust note on the market. I have zero interest in any Tesla vehicles.

So what is coming in near future as competition to Tesla.

Jaguar i-Pace (release late 2018)
Mercedes EQC (release 2019)
Mercedes EQA (release 2020)
Porsche Mission E (release 2019)
Audi e-tron Quattro (release 2019)
BMW iX3 (release 2020)

Anything else coming soon in “luxury” segment? Mercedes has said their entire lineup will have either hybrid or all electric option by 2022. Audi will have 10 all electric cars by 2025. BMW says it expects up to 25 percent of its sales to be plug-in electric vehicles by 2025.

and I bet they won't be months late and ask for an extra $2500 and skip the brake test just to make production... I'm sorry but coming from an automotive manufacturing background.... it don't look good...I'm all for electric cars... But honestly until they come out with batteries that can charge as fast as filling your tank with petrol .... electric cars are not practical....

This is concerning...it seems like the Model 3 is doing really well.

Hopefully once the G20 comes out, BMW can take back some of the lost market share.

Not sure if I should believe a Tesla funded article

Didn’t know this was even a debatable thing. 😳

If burning gas is a feature you look for in a car, a Tesla is not going to be the car for you. In fact, you should probably replace your efficient dynamics F10 with an e60 M5. Half the fuel economy would not be an unexpected result

... and you could learn what a properly driving BMW feels like...

2019 seems to be the year of electric cars. We will see how Telsa adapts to the onslaught of new competition.

Yeah, I saw a half dozen on my way in this morning and way too many Model X's. We went into the Tesla store this last weekend and looked at the Model 3. The interior was at least as roomy as our F30, but the trunk opening is horribly small and tight. Sure wish it were a hatch like the Model S. The sales guy did claim the wait for a dual motor is only three to four months though.

A car that hardly exists is outselling a real car... interesting.

Wonder if the car will be any good or if people are not going to follow through on their preorders.

A lot could happen.

My coworker ordered his car last week. Delivery is in 2 months. I think they've cleared a lot of backlog on the Model 3.

But at $60k ($50k after rebates) for his dual motor Model 3 - I can think of many cars I'd rather have.
