USB Flash Drive Limit

Hi,
Is there a limit to how large the capacity should be for the usb flash drive that connects to the USB port under the armrest?

Also, is the USB port under the armrest 2.0?

Thanks for your help

Idk if there's an actual mb capacity limit but I know for sure it only allows up to 500 tracks. I have a 30 gb usb that has over 600 tracks. It will only show up to 500 of those tracks on the idrive system. The rest are unaccessible unless I delete some tracks. These are videos though that I downloaded from YouTube. I assume it's the same for music tracks. Not sure if it's 2.0 or not though. I would assume it's 3.0 since it's pretty fast reading the usb data.

The manual says it can take 40000 tracks. I use a 1 TB SSD and it works fine. I believe I needed to use exfat file system type for this.

The manual doesn't say what organization you must use, but that is probably a bmw genius question if you register and ask.

The top of the line 2012 pioneer HU in my corvette had a limitation of 255 files or subdirectories in each directory, so I had to organize things hierarchically on the thumb drive I used to avoid disappearing files. I think the NBT has higher limits but still has some from what you found. I still organize a hierarchy on the SSD in my M5 though not as deep as I had to do with the Pioneer. If you have just dumped the 4000 files in the top level directory on your drive that's probably the problem right there.
