Weird ticking noise on acceleration between 2-3k
Car only has 14,xxx miles and has been flawless since I got it this year. Recently I started hearing this noise under low-mid acceleration at lower rpms. Did some research and folks got a similar noise from the B&O center speaker, but turned the radio off while it was doing it with no change so it's not that. Sounds like it's coming from near the firewall. I will check again to see if it does it when revving in N and will have someone rev it while I listen outside.
No codes, weird smells, etc. I do have 5/50 warranty through Patriot Warranty but hope I don't have to use it. Thoughts?

Weird - I've got the B&O in my M5 too and have never heard a rattle like that.
From what I can tell in the video it sounds like it is internal/in the cabin, not coming from the engine bay. No doubt easier to tell in person though rather than listening to it via YouTube. |

Hard to say, but it's almost like it's behind and below the B&O speaker. What's weird is that it does it mainly in the mornings heading to work when it's mid 70s. In the afternoons heading home, it's in the mid 90s and I couldn't get it to make that noise the last few days. Some others have said a similar nose was coming from where the windshield cowl contacts the windshield, so I may jam a few pieces of felt in there to see if it changes.

Ok, after awhile of not doing it, the other day it did the noise again. This time I actually pushed the B&O center speaker down 1/4 of an inch and it went away. When before I had just put my fingers on it. So does anyone know how to snap off that top speaker cover?

There is a TSB out there that addresses this. I don't have a link handy at the moment but if you do a search you should be able to track down the PDF version. It involves adding some insulating strips to the underside of the B&O centre speaker cover.

Thanks...saw the bulletin, says this. I'd hate to break the thing trying to get it off.

My ticking sound gets louder or more frequent with the revs, did yours? Did you get your sorted and was it the b&o tweeter speaker on top of dash please? Regards |

I performed this fix too, and was nervous removing it, but it's pretty simple. Just take a plastic trim remove tool (or any pry tool that won't scratch) and gently pull up under each corner of the silver metal cover, slowly moving around from corner to corner as they start to loosen. It will eventually just pop off. I put a couple thin pieces of foam on mine, and it helped a lot with the noise, but I still get it occasionally. It hasn't bothered me enough to pull it off again and try something else. Good luck. |

I had a similar vibration on the pop up speaker. Took it to BMW of San Antonio and they added some felt (or cushioning of some sort) to kill the vibration due to accelerating.
I have a bumper to bumper warranty but still cost me 180 cuz they didnt replace anything. 180 is the starting price for them to even examine the issue. |

Holy crap 180?
I'm still hesitant to try and pop that cover off. Does the cover pop off at the blue line or the red first? Does the felt go under close to the red line? Edt: Found the TSB https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...50171-9999.pdf

Ok, I have done some more testing with some advice from texsn95 (thank you) and the ticking definitely is coming from under the b&o tweeter, holding mine down only makes a little difference but covering the holes in the top with your hand makes a big difference.
After a bit of a thrash(chucked out my seat on sport plus) at a decent speed I noticed the noise was more defined from the tweeter. I have added some youtube videos I am now convinced its either the Symposer or tweeter that is at fault, but not tweeter mounting or vibration Next step for me is to remove the symposer fuse |

Ok, found my issue, it is the symposer causing it, I think it will be the ECU for the symposer at fault.
Anyway, three trim plugs removed from the boot , pulled back the felt trim to reveal the symposer unit and unplugged the bloody thing. All I can hear now is the proper engine and exhaust sound, no ticking at all. Pictures I borrowed from another post which show the plug to remove Hope this helps someone, Im over the moon now, I can drive my car again |

Well skid I did what you did, unplugged the thing, even though I had it coded out (or thought I did) with Bimmercode. Went for a drive and didn't hear a thing, except I could hear more of the spooling...love that sound.
