Front shock replacement options

I have a 2014 f10 m5 competition pack (tuned).

My right front shock is toast. The remaining 3 shocks are all good.

My questions:

- Can I replace the right front shock only or do I need to replace the left front at the same time?

- Is there an alternative to the OE shock (and if so, what) or is OE my only option?

I'd appreciate advice from anyone technically informed on the subject or anyone who has had personal experience with this

If it's only the one that's faulty I'd just replace that with OE.

Shocks should always be replaced in pairs. I do not believe there are options other than OEM for replacement EDC shocks. They are ridiculously expensive from BMW. You may consider a used pair, or going aftermarket KW V3 coilovers and ditching EDC.

KW V3s are fantastic if you want to liven up the car. Take a look at the review thread in the suspension subforum.

I have a set of OE shocks (f10 m5 competition) shocks and springs (front and rears) for sale. Very low miles.

Thanks for the feedback. I have reviewed the thread and I am persuaded to go with a set of KW V3s. I don't track the car but I am curious to know whether this setup has improved straight-line traction on your car?

The KW v3s probably improve straight line traction a bit due to the improved weight transfer, but the bigger improvement is putting down the power out of corners. You can get on the power way sooner because of the added confidence. When it breaks loose, it's much more progressive and controlled. Can't wait to hear your review after your first spirited drive. I say it to myself often, a car this big shouldn't be able to carve corners like this.
