DIY: Removing airbag warning sticker
I'm trying the method where you use acetone to remove the sticker. There's a post describing the process for the previous M5, but I'm going to give it a shot with the F10 M5.
Here's the original post: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60...-stickers.html I'll post back with results and before, during, after pix once I get it done. |

Probably not going to work on alcantara... They can be replaced with euros spec ones, but they are like 200 a piece

So here are pix of the process.
1st is when I started. 2nd is during. 3rd is final. So the sticker comes completely off, however there is a slight imprint left. Since it's lighter, I don't think it's due to exposure to sun discoloring the surrounding areas. It's most likely residual adhesive. Even with the imprint, to me it looks a lot better than with the sticker. Besides, this cost me $2.50 for the acetone from Walmart (nail polish remover) and a bit of time while I was watching TV. I'm probably going to try some alcantara reconditioning at some point to remove the imprint, but I'm satisfied at the moment. Last edited by v3n0m; 11-27-2013 at 11:53 AM.. |

There is absolutely no smell after it dries.
Also, the second one tool 10 minutes. Dabbed one end, used a tweezer to lift. Then put a little bit of pressure peeling back flat while using a toothbrush to apply acetone to the edge that I was lifting. Came off in one piece and much quicker than the first time. |

V3n thanks for starting this off and for being the first! I still have a long way to go before it will come of in one go.
So I am finished my pax side. It took about an hour. Lot of lessons learned. At the end I still had a bunch of glue left. I am a big RC Heli guys and happened to have some CA ( superglue) remover so I tried it and it worked great! I may try to use it instead of the nail polish remover on the driver side.

My thanks as well. I wouldn't have thought you'd be able to do that with the alcantara material either. I put black vehicle wrap material over mine quite some time ago and it was ok but not as good as your process. I wonder if having that wrap material over the warning will help it come off in one piece if I try this method? Probably won't hurt at least.

Driver side done 15 min!
The super solvent was the key. I put it on one edge then let it sit to lift. About 15 min later I started to peel the edge with one hand and kept apply the solvent under the peel as so worked the sticker off. Then cleaned it up with a bit of solvent and nail polish remover then A light sponge with tide and some water to make it look stock.
