DCT Transmission Build Project
With the existing power levels of 1000ft-lb torque and 1000hp and projected power levels in the 1500hp range, the DCT needs some updates. Given the success with the SSP clutches so far, I have decided to have Kris over at SSP build the DCT transmission.
Details, pictures and more info to follow but I wanted to start a thread up. Like a few other people I also suffer from the Gearshift Rod 5-7 issue (not related to the clutch... rather something inherent in this transmission design). This is occurring on WOT 4th gear upshift to 5th gear where it throws a DTML and you effectively lose 5th gear until the engine is re-started. It is not fully clear what the root cause is, but there are theories. I expect taking the transmission apart and re-building it will shed more clues. I believe it is a matter of time more folks will start seeing this issue as the gears start wearing down. Anyways, car should have the trans out this week and shipped over to Kris to work his magic. |

If there is no damage to the transmission gears, wouldn't the cause most likely be with the electronics? Since in the DCT the gears are already engaged before the shift, unlike the old 4 or 5 speed manual gearboxes, what mechanical malfunction would cause a DTML? Is the high torque twisting something it shouldn't? But with a restart all is well, so I wouldn't think there is any structural damage. Following this with interest also. |

Yes cleaning the magnets is part of the rebuild among other things. Any which way the tranny has to come out! |

This is going to be an informative and straight forward transmission build for everyone to follow. We will document the entire build over a 2-4 week period. Trinity Auto will be doing the initial removal of the transmission within the next week. Our goal on this build is 1000ft/lb. torque. We will be installing some very new products that are not yet available. We have been doing some extensive testing behind the scenes.
We will also show you how to do some of this preventative maintenance to save yourself some dollars from the dealerships. SSP |
