Interesting... I was under the impression they let us the car on European specs while there and reprogrammed it before shipping or after arriving at the port in the US.

Then did you have European navigation data while there?

Your checking on it and comment makes me lean towards a hardware limitation then...
European navigation came in the form of euro maps on a memory stick on an otherwise US spec system as far as I could tell.

ED cars are basically the exact same thing as one built to be shipped directly to a US dealer -- so they have every feature hardware and software required by the US (an obvious example is the orange front side reflectors).

The have the US plate mounts in the trunk, and the euro plates are taped on. They include the european driving mandatory items (first aid kit, warning triangle) in the trunk, but US customs will dictate their removal at port or processing if you dont bring them back... Bottomline is that ED care should just be considered a US-spec car allowed to drive in the EU.

For this discussion, the ED car is no different than any other M5 delivered to a local dealer. The best comparison of files would probably be between a no kidding european M5 and a US one. I dont know if any of our non-Brit european members have upgraded to the '14 yet.

B-1 Pilot:Yup, and that what we are doing: comparing the coding data side by side (see my posts higher up). I have located a UK 2014 ///M5 owner and as you mentioned it would be nice to have more to work with. Hopefully they are reading this and will come forward.

So a vehicle built for and sold to a US market customer/ dealer leaves the factory in a "final" US region state/ specs.
This means, no reprogramming is taking place before or after USA-bound shipping for the ED delivery.

And it makes sense, it would hinder their operations since it would be one more thing to perform, time spent, staff assigned, chance something might go wrong etc.

***why can't I use the syntax to address you directly, works for other other ones but not you screename: ?

Maybe we can conduct some research for the assembly parts, not sure what web sites to use to compare european and US builds though. I only know of realoem.com

Heres what it says. I read that as they will add it to the car. Thoughts?

DRL: daytime running lamps or lights
In the discussion above, we were referring to the rear tail lights being on when the front halos/ angel eyes are on (via DRL ON in iDrive > Settings > Lighting).

Like this:

To your other comment: yes will prob. have to remove 5AP and 8S4 from the VO and then code a few modules.
But there are prob. other differences within the modules (question is also which ones) we would like to uncover.

Hardware: apparently no differences based on realoem.com
I hope this is correct!

You can double check the efficacy of your source by validating if there is a difference for rear lights. MY understanding is that rear lights have red blinkers in US and orange ones in Europe.

The high beam assist worked great. Used it everyday.

yes, the simple high beam assist works on our cars (its a simple toggle on and off when the camera senses oncoming lights).. the advanced version that doesn't actually turn the highs off, but shapes the beams around the oncoming traffic has not been DOT approved yet, so it is coded off on US bound cars.

couple of vids..

Don't use a space.. use @B-1Pilot instead of @B-1 Pilot.
Edit: never mind.. looks like the system doesn't recognize the "-" character so when you type it out, it recognizes all characters before the dash.

By the way, isn't there a VO for region?

I hope you can crack this. Would be a nice feature to have in the US.

dashes and spaces and other non traditional characters prevent you from using the @ to tag people. I have the same issue with ///M Kid and ONE OF 40 FS M3

They should have a warning message to help pick taggable names.

Or, better yet, when you type in @, it should give a popup to tag people.
