I have been doing some research and I think could have something to do with the trans reaching right temps before the WOT starts ...

What do you mean ARC? WOT before box has been warmed up properly?

It has been confirmed by bmw and ssp that the issue is caused by metallic wear acculumation to the mechatronic magnetic sensors causing the sensors to loose reading accuracy over time as more wear dirt accumulates.....fix is to clean sensors or install new trans+ 2018 bmw firmware updates

Keep us posted......so I gather from your last post that after some hard runs you started getting the rod shift error?

***remember the oem BMW flash update will erase your ECU tune....you will have to reflash the aftermarket tune after oem flash

It's because the TCU VIN is stored in a locked area of memory. Similar to the VIN/Mileage in the KOMBI and the key data stored in the CAS. It's to prevent theft in the vehicles. i.e. anyone with E-Sys could walk up to your car, plug in and rewrite the protected area of your CAS to overwrite the key data and drive off with the vehicle.

Factory tools won't allow you to modify these areas of memory at all. There are third party tools which allow you to do it, but you usually have to pull apart the module and connect directly to the chip on the board to perform a low-level rewriting of the EEPROM.

Drive train fault

Hi. I recently experienced the same message and after getting my local dealer to have a look, they are looking to replace metatronic sensors. The warranty will be covering the costs so will update you if it fixes the problem.

Interesting. So lets say you buy a low mile used DCT to swap into your car, you can re-use your own TCU and use the donor transmission and rest of the mechatronics assembly?

Is the TCU integrated with the solenoids or are they separate parts?

I'm just trying to get a handle on how people are going to deal with these problems as the cars age, and replacement with a new DCT is either unavailable or too costly.

The only info I have is that the latest 2018 BMW software updates combined with the specific Mechatronics transmission cleaning will resolve the issue (per SSP)

Guys, update on this issue.
The BMW's plagued "Rod code issues" can be resolved now...

Almost all of the Rod Code issues result from a transmission clutch relearn or adaptation. This happens because the parameters of the transmission have changed due to clutch wear and metallic debris accumulating on the shift fork magnets.

Solution:
Update latest 2016 transmission firmware before doing any adaptations
Clean all shift fork magnets during service
Clean Megatronic unit including internal filters

Is this a solution you guys have came up with or is this also a bulletin @ BMW dealerships? As my car is going to dealer Monday for this issue and I am wondering how they will approach it.
thanks

Yes this is the solution to fixing many "rod" code issues. We have had about a 90% success rate in fixing the issues...

Is there a way to update the firmware at home using esys or does this have to be done at the dealer?

When updating software I believe it wipes away the tune at the same time. That's what I heard.

If they update the dme software that is true, however with most you can flash back to stock, have the firmware updated then reinstall your tune.

I'm downloading the latest psdz files currently, they are 2018 files so it should have the 2016 dct firmware.

Did you guys ever put out a diy on cleaning the shift fork magnets? I saw a previous post that said you were working on it.
