DCT behavior
I am curious about my DCT behavior, and if it’s common or some issue with mine.
Many times when the car going down in speed slowly, i.e approaching a red light, or a curve, lets say I am in 3rd and I can feel like a small downshift happens and gear engages. Its like the car was going in N and then the gear engages, I don’t see any change in the gear indicator, I am still in 3rd. Its normal for the DCT to disengage the gear when you are not pushing the accelerator? And then reengage when it “believes” you will need it? Would appreciate your input on this, thanks! |

I'm new to the platform, but in the small amount of time I've had with my car I haven't noticed that.

your clutch is probably slipping and you'll just need to get a new clutch pack $3500 or you could have debris on the solenoids. |

Its 2016 with low 11,000 miles. What is the debris on the solenoids you mention? |

but my question is why do you have it in auto mode and not shifting manually with the paddles? because that's pretty much what I do at all times and I've never had those problems the dct is an automated manual.. not an auto, not a manual..but theres a clutch its like there's a little guy in there that runs the clutches for you.. have you noticed yet that when you're on an incline waiting to pull out into traffic and you let off of the brake it pops out of gear and goes into neutral and you roll backwards.. or have you noticed when you come to a complete stop in traffic at a red light and you're in first gear and you let off of the brake it just stays in place because it's in neutral .. it does this to save the clutch.. do u know about creep mode? |

Yes, I am aware of the behavior of the DCT on the inclines, when car stop, creep mode, etc and I am fine with that
In manual mode the issue doesn't happen. Just curious if its something I should worry about, or gearbox is about to explode, or its part of the normal behavior. Another thing happens frequently at highway speeds is from 6 to 5 or 7 to 6, long "hesitation period". You push the accelerator ...and nothing...it takes like 2 secs until downshifts...and the car starts to accelerates. As you can imagine when you doing 160-180 Km/h, those 2 seconds seems like an eternity |

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? |

What shift mode etc is it in?
The only time i notice the delay is when it hasnt preselected correctly next anticipated gear The wire x5m is heaps better to drive around town and feel powerful on stock settings The m5 need to change thr and gearbox settings to get any real acceleration |

Happens for me in D1, D2, and Comfort & Sport. Not tried Sport+ but I think it'll happen then.
I took a video of the issue. Basically, I say "now" when I put my foot down most of the way, and you can see the car has selected 5th gear on the display immediately. However, it takes a 1 - 1.5s before it _really_ selects 5th and you see the revs climb and start accelerating. Throughout this time, my foot hasn't moved. That 1-1.5s feels like an eternity when you're doing those sorts of speeds. Doesn't happen all the time, but seems to be quite consistent when you're doing 70+. Also happens from 6->4 at lower speeds. Interestingly, if it goes from 7-6, it's fine, or 6-5. So it's almost like it's getting confused when it's changing gear on the same clutch. Doesn't happen at all in manual mode, I can manually shift as quick as I want and it always accelerates although it is a little harder to try and reproduce shifting manually. |

I don't think so. It's going into BMW tomorrow to be investigated, perhaps I'll ask them to do a DCT service whilst its in there.
Edit: this thread sounds similar, although I think the chap was manually shifting down and saw delays. Software update cured it. https://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1373945 Last edited by 996c4smd; 10-19-2020 at 01:08 PM.. |

As you say a software update may cure it and I read there somewhere that the service guys may cancel out the preferred driving style mode temporarily making it sluggish.

LOL, you should drive an E60 SMG around town in "D" mode, it'll thunk and clunk until you think it's going to drop out of the bottom of the car.

Software update didn't cure it, I'm not sure if it's normal, would need to drive another.
Sometimes, it gets confused, especially at motorway speeds, if I get it to repeatedly change gear in "D". So if I'm cruising in 7th then get it to change in 5th (with the delay), then let it naturally shift up into 6th, but at roughly the same time, press the accelerator enough to get it to change in 4th, it can delay and "bang" into 4th. In manual mode, it's fine, but I can't change gears the same way it does in D. |
