DTM-118111 Mixture Control 2- Injector Replacement!
When I first bought my beloved M5, it was amazing. The previous owner told me he had the infamous "Drivetrain Malfunction". He had the plugs, coils, fuel pumps replaced under warranty.
Performance Mods include: ESS High Flow Catted Downpipes Acrapovic Exhaust MSR Intakes ESS Stage I tune All seemed great for a while...Then this happened: Great.. Now the troubleshooting begins... Downloaded codes and get this Reset ECU to stock and problem eventually came back so it wasn't related to the tune. Decided to pull plugs and check for wetting. Bank 1: Bank 2: Hooray! Leaky injectors.. After biting the bullet and ordering all new genuine injectors from FCP, I was on the website looking around and noticed the OE Bosch injectors were in stock at 1/3rd the price. Sweet, ordered those and sent the genuine's back. Before I sent them back, I did a side by side comparison to make sure I was good. I will note, I went with the original EU5 injectors. Yep same same... Kind of weird that there aren't any caps to keep the o-rings from expanding... o well. On to the replacement! Teardown Finally got those buggers out. Back Together!! Reloaded the tune and all is well so far! About 1000 miles down now going strong! If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Fell in love with this car all over again! Thanks for reading. ~Joe |

Thanks for the post and pictures. I have a feeling I will need to replace mine at some point.
2 questions: -What is the blue anodized tool in the pics? Used for removal or install or both? -Do you have to use ISTA P for the programming? I'd like to do the whole job myself but I only have an older version of ISTA D (goes up to 2013 models). |

Per the TIS you are supposed to use for installation as well, but I just made sure they were fully seated prior to installing the hold down brackets. I used ISTA-D version 4.x.x Vehicle identification Function selection Service functions Engine electronics Adjustment functions Injection quantity compensation. I thought about doing a write up, but the TIS really explains it well. I can send a link if you can't find it. |

Thanks for sharing. I also just got this SES on my car. I too also replaced plugs, coil packs and fuel pump. On my car I only get SES light with tune on and Car is fine without tune. I will probably reload tune and try to replicate the SES light before taking it in to get injectors looked at.

1) Tuning void warranty 2) BMW only pays for the injector that failed, not the all of them 3) A failed/failing injector can bomb the whole engine which BMW wouldn't cover |

Does “mixture too rich” triggers drivetrain malfunction message? I have exact same code but just CEL light on. DT error pops for rail pressure plausibility.
Workshop buddy told me it’s leaky injectors |

The reason I say to not take chances is leaky injectors can cause hydrolock and a rod through the block or simply a bent rod but that's still the same end game... new engine. |

Hi OP, do you need to do a DME adaptation reset after changing and registering the injectors? Thanks.

I dont mind a bent rod but dont fancy a rod through the block. Rods are "easily" replaced. |

Mines a '13 with 35k miles and I don't think there is reason to panic and replace all injectors.
The original injectors were tested to maximum before car was released to the public and I'm still in the dark about what injectors you should replace them with should you want to go ahead for just peace of your own mind.Someone in NY had a replacement engine and he's saying THAT engine failed because of wrong injectors fitted... |

Not necessarily. I recommended it to the poster because he claims to have leaky injectors. If their leaking, replace ASAP.

So for installation you just pushed the injectors down into there vallets and then bolted them down?
I know TIS says to use the toll for install but doesnt really make sense, i figured you can just push them in and bolt them in as you did and it will be fine.
