M5 Manual Transmission Rebuild?

I just purchased a 2013 M5 with manual transmission. It’s making a whirring noise which we believe is an internal bearing in the transmission. The problem is BMW does not sell any internal components for the transmissions.

I was hoping maybe someone here could point me in the right direction for someone who can rebuild it or has some experience in this.

The whirring noise is heard when the clutch is not depressed, completely goes away once the clutch is depressed, and slowly builds back up once you release the clutch.

I'm reasonably sure it's the clutch release bearing, which is a straightforward replace once the gearbox is pulled back and the clutch plate and cover itself can then be inspected also for wear. They for sure should have these parts.

It can only be what I said if the whirring noise subsides when you press in the clutch, best see what a tech says to be 10/10 sure.

Thank you for the help, I will go ahead and try this first before sending it out or buying a reman/new from BMW

Just an update, diagnosed with gear face noise. The whirring goes away completely when in gear and off throttle, comes back instantaneously when you apply throttle. Unfortunate.

The good news is that it’s mostly just nuisance and the functionality of the car isn’t so much affected.

Have you considered finding a used transmission as a parts donor for a rebuild? I am assuming BMW used this transmission in other cars than just the F10 M5?

Yes, the only used transmission I found online was from a 100k+ mileage donor.
This transmission was used in the M5/M6, and 2017+ 640/650.

I figure it’s worth the extra money to just buy reman/new from BMW and not have to second guess anything on it.

Just an update on this, did entire clutch assembly and the noise is a little better. Maybe this will help someone in the future.
