Was thinking of throwing a injector cleaner in a tank of gas and wondered if it's even necessary since I use chevron or mobile 93 octane gas always. Some guy at auto part store told me while at the counter buying something for my exhaust that he puts Marvil mystery oil direct in his oil and gas tank? Anyway, for our engines what's everyone's experience with even using a injector cleaner?

Some say to use it every once in a while but to not over do it by adding too often or you run the risk of burning the exhaust valves. Personally I don't think the cleaners are worth it, especially not at sub 100k miles.

As a side note, you may get 1 out of 100 parts counter guys that actually know anything besides thinking they know everything. I would not be listening to a parts guy about additives if for no other reason than he is probably trying to sell you product.

I know this is an old thread, but to clarify in case someone comes across it. The above statement is false. Fuel treatments in a direct port injection system wouldnt affect the valves. The injector doesnt spray over the valves like conventional engines. If you use a fuel treatment constantly, i would imagine the only risk of damage may come with poisoning your cats.
