S63 Valve Stem Seals

Hi all,

New to the forum, just bought a 2014 M5 Comp Package 97,000 miles.

Unfortunately within days of receiving the car I am experiencing misfires and smokes from the exhaust on start up.

I took it to my independent mechanic and they say that the car misfire is from fouled spark plugs, but the real issue is leaking Valve Stem Seals.

They will have a quote ready for my on Monday, but he warned that it is a big job and will likely be apex $7,000.

Reading online it seems this is very common on the N63 engines and they even had a class action lawsuit.

Does anyone know if there is a similar lawsuit or recall that applies to the S63 engine?

Any other input?

I see there are DIYs and tool rentals on performing this replacement on N63 engines but I did not see any specifically for the S63.

Thanks

At nearly 100k miles you might as well do the whole thing with the rod bearings also if they haven't been done already.

Seems like all the bmw v8s need rebuilds by 100k miles. I've done it on the e60 and will probably need it soon for F10 550i.

I was under the impression that rod bearings were a e60 and e90 issue primarily. Have people been experiencing these failures on f10s as well?

Also, does anyone know of a tool rental kit for the S63 valve stem seal replacement? Is the N63 kit usable for the S63?

Would you walk away from this deal? In my online search it seems that pretty much any M5 at this mileage will have similar issues which will not be covered by any reasonable warranty.

Although not yet confirmed I may have an opportunity to return it to the dealership, although I really want to keep it.

Thanks

I had intermediate levers and valve seals done on an e60 545i V8 and the head mechanic at my local Indy said that was typical on the v8s around 100k miles and had just done the same on his own x5.

If you buy a high mileage car you should expect higher outlay on deferred maintenance items but it is kind of fun to get a freshened engine and is also an opportunity to make any changes at that time.
