M5 Reliability Concern
Hello, first time posting on M5Post. Friend of mine just purchased a 2013 M5. Sitting at 50k miles with some decent service records. DCT has never been serviced though. Differential has been serviced, as well as regular oil and filter changes throughout its life. Car currently has a muffler and res delete with downpipes on the way. Upgraded thermostat along with a fresh set of spark plugs are on the way as well. What's concerning is the DCT and tuning wise. He is looking into tunes whether it be BM3, MHD, JB4, etc. Heard people spinning their clutches around 600+ horsepower. . Is that true and what can we expect out of a 50k mile DCT. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a 2015 with 40k and a DME Stage 3 tune on stock DCT done at 35k. Eventually I will have to get an upgrade with SPP but if you are not beating on it all the time you it could last for a long time.
A lot is going to depend on how you drive the car and how well you take care of it. But also its a risk as something can happen at any time once you start modifying your car. Its just being smart about the risk you are taking. |

A thorough deep dive into the service history would help you with next steps. At what mileage was the first oil change was completed is a huge item as well as the oil change intervals throughout the 50k miles. I would definitely change the plugs and coils. Check the turbo coolant lines for leaking as that's a very common little nuisance of an issue.
I have a 2014 with 100+ miles with no issues. Stage 2 tune, stock internals, stock clutch. Good luck and drive safely |

My buddies M6, he tuned around 70K and he started slipping around 80k. So it's hard to judge as everyone may have a difference experience. My advice is to save up some $ and expect to have to change the clutches out.
