If turbo coolant line recall not completed should I be on the hook for leak?

Apologies for the slow update have been slacking a bit as due to being out of town and weather wife has not been driving the car much. Wanted to check before I order parts and make sure this would be the correct kit to order? I would prefer to stay oem just for ease of everything with me not knowing much about cars and I don't think we will own the car long enough to see the benefit of aftermarket parts that may last longer. Also from the pictures the metal clamps look like the same as what I use for pex pipes so guessing I can just use my pex crimp tool on these?

Appreciate the help a ton guys I know this job is probably pretty easy for most and I don't think I'll have an issue doing it just more so a matter of knowing what is what! I plan to take pictures and make a little write up to hopefully help people down the road!!

They're the ones, the crimping tool should work just fine.

Finally getting around to tackling this job! Ordered parts from ecs tuning which came in last week. Just popped the hood will update in a bit!

I'm curious what ended up happening with this. I have ended up in a similar scenario. Dealer is quoting me a 2k repair bill for this. I'm on my way back over to the dealership now to see how it is possible. He told me 654 dollars in parts and the rest labor taking it to 21xx.

Like always, I regret even going to the dealer. Why is it that you never feel good when leaving a dealership service department. You always feel angry and taken advantage of. I'm disappointed that this is the first of my "BMW experience" but I shouldn't be surprised.

Got more info when I got to the dealer. The quote is this large because they position is that the right way to fix it is to replace the hard lines as well even though they are not leaking. I asked the service adviser and he told me that for a recall it is BMW trying to fix things as cost effective as possible versus this being the best way to repair it. I have a warranty so I can get it all done for a 250 deductible. Is there any good reason to go that route versus just spending 60 dollars on the kit from ECS and doing it myself? I'm not seeing much upside.

My car has recall done in 2015 but needs again at 24k miles. Oh well it's cheap. Thanks for the input.

Just grab yourself a set of hoses. Easiest job on the M5.

I'm new to the forum, I recently purchased my first ever BMW m5 f10 2012 yesterday. Absolutely a beast of a car. However my joy was short lived when i got a top up coolant light, my engine coolant was full and didn't make sense but then went into bmw and they said it has a second coolant for the turbo, which he showed me and thats when he took the engine cover off and I saw the exact same leakage and issue as mentioned in the thread,

I'm in not so sunny Scarborough. Honestly though it's a very easy job. A normal garage would charge you 30 mins labour.

Hahah right then I'm driving up to Scarborough 😂😂, hmm I might try and take it to a BMW specialist then, did you buy the parts direct from BMW in the UK?? I have the part numbers because they are written on the TSB pdf attached in the post. I haven't asked them how much are the parts. I'll ring them this morning and see what they say.

I'm hoping they would do it under warranty even though its not under warranty anymore because its a fault they were aware of and its been serviced by them for the last 5 years!!!

Not sure on that. If I had thought when I did mine I could have done one. Very simple though, pop the heatsheilds off, pry the clips off, slice the hoses down the middle and remove. Fitting is self explanatory.

Yep, appreciate the information. I'm generally confident I can do it but not everyone has the same skills... my parts are on the way but the dealer also called and I maybe able to get them to do it as a courtesy... I'll come up with DIY if I end up going solo.

Don't rush in and buy those parts.Two small hoses were needed doing on mine and all that was needed is a .5 metre of synthetic water hose where I can cut off what I need and 4 smooth worm clips .then some heatproof size covering from a small roll doesn't need to be bmw.Total was about £16 in all. I've said before its easy spending money in a hurry on these motors.

Don't get robbed.

Part number for hose set with clamps - 11538092360

Part number for heat protection if needed - 11537853849

I didn't bother with the heat protection as mine were fine. The hoses and clamps came to approx £35. Expensive for what it is but some people pay thousands to get this simple job carried out, don't ask me how but it's all on here. ,

Just give them the part number and wait for it to come. They may not be able to tell you what it consists of.

Don't bother with jubilee clips etc as you won't get the heat protection on, and believe me you need it.
