Thinking of Buying M5 F10 2012-2013
Hi All,
I looking to purchase 2nd hand M5 F10 from BMW Dealer just wondering what i should be looking out for in terms of any issue or callback that needed to be addressed prior to purchasing looking to get a late 2012 or early 2013 model. Any help be much appreciated. Thanks Neetin |

I have just bought a 35k mile Montecarlo blue with silverstone leather.
I wanted a few options because I will be using it to go weekends away etc. Imo buy an AUC car from dealer with full history gives a bit of comfort should issues arise. Make sure you get the multi function seats too, big difference although you will pay more. Take your time when looking best of luck. |

As said above, I'd go for an approved used car. It is very risky to own a car like this without a warranty and you will struggle to get a comprehensive warranty that will go anywhere close to comprehensive cover should you have a major engine or gearbox failure. I bought a 2014 car which had less than 14k miles and 3 services carried out by the same dealer. I got the one year approved used warranty and added year 2 for £500. Consider what a third party warranty would cost (£100 a month typically) . So the non AUC model needs to be at least £2k cheaper than from a main dealer.
Depending on your budget a 2014 on lci model will give you a few tweaks such as improved M differential settings from improved traction. There were also some issues with oil pumps ( or water pumps) on earlier cars. Be fussyin your search as there are lots of cars around. |

thanks for the info guys much appreciated. I tend to always buy from dealer cause of the warranty so i totally agree with cars like this you need a full comprehensive warranty for any issues that might arise.
i going to see if i can get LCI model but its looking to more likely a late 2012 or early 2013. Anything that i need to make sure that i need to check or work that needs to be carried out ? i am fully aware of the run in service that needs to be carried out. b21playa was there updated water or oil pump that is required on the earlier models? Thanks |

guys i found a 61 plate m5 with 40k on the clock from the dealer looks good even managed to negotiate price down. car is 7 years old. This is the early model so anything i really need to make sure that its done seeing as this would be one of the 1st batches of m5's.
thanks Neetin |

From a dealer, it should be good. You’ll have good grounds of support is required.
However, it doesn’t mean that all the ‘consumables’, such as tyres etc have loads of life in them, so factor in life expectancy of such parts. Be thorough in your checks, you don’t want a nasty surprise in 3 months. Also, might sound stupid, but establish that the wheels are perfectly round. Our roads are appalling so a buckled wheel will cause issues that aren’t immediately apparent. |

DTP1980 its from dealer so i have full 1 year warranty on the car regardless. When i called yesterday they did say that 3 wheels need to be refurbished. they gave me a cost buying it without the refurb and with which i thought was odd. I think the car needed new tyres looking at the last MOT report so i am guessing the tyres are fairly new seeing as mot was done @ 37k and car only done 40k. I just more sceptical as lot of forum users have advised to go for LCI due to engine issues later on. I more than happy to pay for extended warranty from BMW like have done with all my previous cars just to have peace of mind. My only one big conern is that this car was on sale few weeks ago and then it went off the BMW website. When i called yesterday i said how comes the car is back on sale they said that the person buying it found another car after he come to see it. Not sure how much of that is true but it has been playing around in my mind that why the person decided not to purchase this particular vehicle.
I believe that BMW only sell AUC with that have minimum 3mm on all the tyres if they are below then they replace them. additional options on the car: Aluminium Trace interior trim Lumbar support. driver and front pass. M Multi-function seats. front Split-folding rear seats Through-loading ski bag Soft-close doors Sun protection glass BMW Apps interface Bootlid operation. powered High-beam Assistant Internet Loudspeaker system - BMW Professional Reversing Assist camera Speed limit display Surround-view Telephone USB audio interface Last edited by NM7; 06-27-2018 at 12:50 AM.. |

This may sound slightly biased but people who come of these types of forums tend to be car enthusiasts/petrol heads and as such look after their cars very very...
If you can get one from a forum member with BMW warranty i would take that over a dealer any day of the week but I would say that because Im selling my car I wreckon other forum members will back me up on the above but the main point is having a bmw warranty |

drbru i would agree but then there other factors as well such as budgets, mileage, which might be on the agenda. But i do agree that most or all forum members do look after their cars very well.

So I have a 2011 fully loaded early car....I would honestly say that with regards to the problems I have had they had all been fairly similar to other cars i have owned and pretty much all covered by warranty....Not sure about the comments related to engine and LCI version because the engine is the same... Off the top of my head these are the problems I have had 1) Drivetrain error - rectified by software update 2) Coolant leak for coolant lines - known problem covered by gesture of good will 3) Brake cyclinder failure - known problem covered by warranty 4) AC unit failure - known problem covered by warranty 5) Water ingress leak from bulk head - known problem covered by gesture of goodwill I would describe the above list as not really a big deal considering my particular car is 7 years old. My biggest headache has in fact been the dealer though and its really important to find a competant BMW dealer as in my experience the dealer network is pretty bad so have had to fight pretty hard for the gestures of good will |

Sounds like a lovely car. Bare in mind that there is a greater chance of hearing negative things about any car, on any forum. You hear little of all the cars which have had no issues whatsoever.
I always absolutely push dealers and make them work for the sale and make sure that any new to me car is at it’s very best. And if your gut is telling you something doesn’t feel right, just walk, another one come along soon enough. Especially for wheels and tyres, which are the only things in contact with the road, I make sure they are as near to new as possible. A set of MPS4S on 20’s will cost you £1k. Make them pay for them, they can afford it. |
