Car Wont Stay Running Once Warm Runs Great

Hey guys so I decided to keep my M5 but since i put back the stock downpipes I ran into some issues unsure why. Car is COMPLETELY Stock. No tune nothing.

So on cold start I start the car, and after a bit of idling (Minute or 2) The car will just shut off. Fires right back up no issues, then engine will die again, this does this a handful of times, and will throw multiple malfunctions. If you drive the car while colder it has happened to car will shut off while driving but will fire back up with no hesitation.

Drivetrain Malfunction
Rear Differential Axle Lock
Engine Temperature High
Brake System
Chassis Stabilization

On my hand held Schwaben Scanner I purchased from ECS I get the following codes:

U013C/$07E9 : Please refer to vehicle service manual

U0100/$07E9: Lost Communication With ECM/PCM A

And when I scan the modules it shows a bunch of faults as well.

So I used my laptop and scanned the car with the Flashing Software from the tune and got the following codes:

CDA463
CDA483
CDA497

No fault code description found.

Once the car is warmed up after a hand full of times of shutting off and being turned back on the malfunctions stop the CEL is on, but the car drives absolutely flawless. Goes through gears no problem drives so smooth everything is great.

So I clear the codes and continue to drive everything is great. This part I just assume I need new plugs or to be regapped, cause when I Do a pull in the upper RPM Band of 2nd gear the car will literally feel like it hit a wall a split second power cut, the CEL will flash and instantly disappear and continue to be able to pull (Misfire Assuming not really my big concern)

I just want to know if anyone has seen these codes and what they mean. I cant seem to find an answer to this and this has only happened when stock downpipes went back on recently. Makes me iffy to take the car on longer drives such as work etc where the car will sit for a bit, I dont want to have that issue and potentially get stuck with the car or continuously shutting off.

I will be replacing the battery, New Spark Plugs and 02 sensors hopefully in a week or two ! Mind you my car still only has 39k miles so its very strange for something like this to be occurring.

Thank you everyone in advanced for any possible help !!!!

Maf Connections/ Intake would cause this ? I returned my OEM intakes on the car. I will check that shortly.

I have been driving the car for the past 3 days and it has not had a single hiccup. Like at all. Not sure what the hell is going on.

Yes a loose connection in the intake or maf issue will absolutely cause this. Did you reninstall oiled filters when you went back to stock?

I will definitely look into this ! Whatever filters were in the airboxes when I bought the car. The stock intakes came off 24hrs after I brought the car home lol

I agree, check MAF's. For the hell of it I would check your battery terminal connections and make sure they are tight as well.

Just an update. I have not checked mafs yet. I will be putting my intakes back on the car so i will check then.

Although while driving i hit a dip in the road twice. The car throws a CEL for a hot second and clears right away. I had the car in sport mode and it put me into efficient.

Now i hit a 3rd dip in the road and the car shut off and threw a drivetrain malfunction. While still rolling in neutral, i held the brake lightly and started the car back up, car started with zero malfunctions codes and not even the CEL on.

Car is driving flawless and pulling very strong. But even a simple little dip in the road causes this. Its very aggravating. Not sure if anyone else has had these symptoms.

Once I pick up my intakes I will go over the maf wiring and install on the new intakes.

Based on this new description, I can almost guarantee your battery terminal is loose. It takes literally 10 seconds to check unless you drive around with a trunk full of crap. haha

Haha I got a new battery and installed it temporarily to make sure it wasnt a battery problem. So terminals are definitely tight cant be that.

Im wondering if the 02 wires could have been damaged from getting pushed down with the 02 tool. Or if any ECU or whatever wires could have gotten pinched or such from moving the ecu out of the way during downpipe uninstall

hmm. I would check all of your ecu connections then. Both banks obviously. The most defined way to do it would be disconnect and reconnect each of them. You could have 1 connector not fully seated. Look for that first.

Going to take a look and remove the ECUs today and recheck all the wiring and plug them back in .

Yesterday after idling for about 15 min (waiting for someone) car died on me. Started back up no issues then died again after about 5 minutes. And then about 3 times on my way home it just died out . Very strange. Hope its just an unseated ecu plug or something. But what is even weirder is i never removed the ECUs when i did the DPs .

Will keep you guys posted later on when i check it out !

Turns out we forgot to put the screws back on the tower that screws into the motor and I had a buddy start the car and instantly once i lifted the tower off the motor with everything plugged in it shut off and threw the normal malfunctions lol. Ordered new bolts with BMW will have it tightened down tomorrow. Hopefully nothing else triggers it

Are you referring to the metal piece that both ECU's are located on? I wouldn't think simply moving that would cause a problem unless a connector wasn't secure (and lifting on the ECU pulled the connection open) OR if the bracket is a ground path for the ECU's.

Yes I am. The slightest movement in that bracket off the engine killed it. The ecu's are grounded to that bracket. and that bracket grounds to the motor. The bolts were back ordered so they will showing up in the am. I'll have more updates in the morning once I put the screws in.
