Need to quiet this beast down!

Hey guys,

I have an 18 mo. daughter and she absolutely loves the car and the vroom that comes with it, however the drone and sound of the exhaust is just too much for her. I could also go for eliminating the smell and fumes (def not good over time)...

I currently have the following:

Fabworx Catless Downpipes
Eisenmann Race Exhaust

Im looking for some advice on two fronts:

1. Custom exhaust modification to quiet down the exhaust
2. What would a different set up look like:

Do I remove the Catless and go with Catted Downpipes?

Do I remove and sell the Eisenmann Race?

What would your ideal setup look like to still have the WoT sound but cut down on the loud drone especially at lower gears?

Thanks,

Tom

if you want to both cut down on the sound and get rid of the smell/fumes, going back to a catted DP would seem to make sense. I'd then evaluate whether you're in a good spot or also need to swap out the Eiseman Race for something calmer.

I'd personally either go aftermarket catted downpipes or factory cats. You'll probably stand a better chance of making it quieter with factory cats on.

Wouldn't want to remove that eisenmann exhaust though.

You could go with an Akra exhaust. As far as smell I'm catless now and it stinks and no drone what so ever but when I was catted it sounded way less aggressive than the comp exhaust it came with and no smell to deal with obviously.

I've had AMS catless downpipes and heard good things about their catted dp; but they are pricey (like $3k new): https://www.amsperformance.com/cart/...-m6-downpipes/

I would possible recommending going back to stock downpipes and a stage one tune.

I have a Meisterschaft exhaust on mine that has separate key fobs to open a valve (for louder snarl) or close it (for quiet rumble). I close the valve during cold start and when I'm leaving my neighborhood, then turn it on when going to the main street. Best of both worlds.

What if I placed resonators on the current set up?

Shop suggested I could quiet it down....

I'm not an expert, but I believe a resonator will also change the tone and reduce performance slightly. Unless it's a resonator specific to your exhaust, it's really unpredictable how it will sound in and out of the cabin.

Plus, I wouldn't want some random exhaust shop messing with a $3,500 exhaust system to add a no-name resonator. You'll have a tough time selling it or trading it if you don't like it.

The cleanest resonator option may be to order one of these resonated mid-pipes for your specific exhaust: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Exhaust/...or-F10-M5.html

You could probably sell your non-resonated one afterwards.

Its the full system on this one so even more expensive.

Willing to give it a try and see but not sure yet.

adding a resonator in the mix will definitely help w/ drone. Probably not the smell though. If you want quiet it down but keep most of the performance, sell me the E-race exhaust and I'll give you my OEM Comp Pack exhaust.

I gotcha. I misunderstood - imagined someone welding on some resonators to your expensive setup.
