My F10 M5's engine seized w / 70k miles
As the title says my 2013 m5's engine needs to be replaced/rebuilt .... no warnings at all , no oil leaks ...
No abuse , not aggressive driving ! Never tracked ! Always maintained properly at BMw of Pembroke Pines in Florida ... Bought It CPO almost 4 years ago ... and now out of warranty !!! Is this fair ??? Any recommendations? Is this becoming more common on f10 m5s with these kind of mileage ? Read that other people are having same kind of issues ... |

Mine seized last month, also the same story, very well looked after, tracked only once last year and seized on me on the middle of the road a couple of hundred meters away from my house. 67k miles. I had warranty by motorangel but decided to sell the car and got 12k for it. The warranty wanted to strip the engine apart at my cost(1-2k) and then decide if they will cover the component(not the whole engine) so I thought it would be too much hassle with an added stressful risk on whether they will cover it or not so decided to just take the money on offer.

Have you replaced your rod bearings? If not, that would be my bet at 70k miles.

BMW engineer that inspected the car, the moment we tried to turn the engine and it wouldn't, told me that pre-LCI M5 cars have a faulty oil pump. When he called his manager at the BMW dealership, the service manager also confirmed the issue with the oil pump and told me that BMW does not officially recognise it but they actually did me the favour to write up a report for my warranty that stated it in black & white.

I decided to send car over to Troy Jeup up in Michigan to do a complete rebuild .... Spoke to him and gave me an estimate for a bulletproof engine with 700hp /700tq ... I could have done it cheaper but I think he is the right guy ... If it was the oil pump at least it should have given me a sign or a sensor should have came up ... not a single thing on the dashboard ... I wasn't aware that also M5 had rod bearing issues ... we also have in the house a 2008 M3 e93 w 75k miles on it and runs great ... will do oil analysis soon .... |

It's really like a joke that this can happen at anytime on cars that costed around $100k new , and are supposed to be with the latest technology and reliability. I babied this car and this is what i get ? At least I am happy I found Troy since now I will get something exciting back ... but it still hurts to me being a father of 5 kids with big expenses every month .... |

From what I can see S63TT engines manufactured from July 19 2012 through to September 11 2012 were subjected to a manufacturing process error where the oil pump shaft could separate from the oil pump rotor and those affected should have been recalled for no charge pump replacement.
Mine is a January 2013 |

Bulletins were from Bimmerpost and Piston Heads. I recommend to contact supplying dealer now if your build date falls within these time parameters and it HASN'T been done. |

No indication came to me either, nothing, the car just shut down and refused to start again. It was also impossible to put it into neutral and a total nightmare to load and offload with park mode engaged. I am now thinking of getting the M3 or the C63 AMG but neither ticks all my boxes and the family(3 kids) misses the M5 and they do not like the M3 option. I am not keen on getting the same car without trying something else, so I might go with Audi RS4 or 6. I really would like something smaller and more nimble so the prospect of having just a weekend car(911, R8, M3/4 competition) and use the family car(C4) for everyday is looking better by the minute. decisions..decisions.. |

It's very possible that the early M5s had some sort of defect. |
