I have the same sound going on. Mine is definitely from the DCT. Has anyone ever tried to do a relearn? I called SSP and they suggested it.

My car does the same thing. The dealer told me it was normal characteristic of a dct. Only does it in idle and goes away as soon as transmission engages. 14 comp with 36k. I also heard it in my friends 15 m4 with similar miles and also dct. It would be nice to know why some do it and some don't.

I have same issue in my m5 2011. I have that from last 3 years. I changed transmission oil, dual mass flywheel and run ISTA D re-learning procedure. Nothing changed so far. I think this can be clutch or transmission.

OK, so I have found in different topic, that user ZANDERZA changed part 28102284678 and knocking from DCT goes away.
I will check if this part is missing in my car and if yes i will install it.
Let's see if it will help.

Hey, anyway you could update on this? Another user saw that you replaced part number 28102284678. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Curious on labor cost. The part itself is cheap but it looks like a tough job to install

The only way would be to remove the transmission. I’m wondering if you could fill the gap from the bottom with rubber to deaden the sound. I find it hard to believe this part made a difference but I am open minded. Obviously it’s not fixing the problem just masking how loud it is.

Removing the transmission sounds super expensive lol
I’d rather bear with noise haha. I’m now kinda used to it

Not sure on time to remove and install the m5 gearbox but surely can't be more than 3-4 hours. In the UK you would pay around £130-£180 at an independent garage for a job like this. Don't get ripped off because it's an M5, ask their hourly rate before you tell them what car it is.

quality shops are usually 90-100 dollars an hour. 4-5 hours seems quick i figured 6-7 plus tax.

Not necessarily. 5 hours would be slow. Our dealers charge £90 plus vat per hour. A good honest independent is 40-50.

Pretty big break through guys. I had a look under the car and I don’t have that part between the trans and engine to help insulate the noise. I’m a believer that this may solve or help quiet my issue. I have an aftermarket warranty and going to see if I can get it covered. Crossing my fingers this works.

I never tried it out. My dealer was iffy on whether the warranty would cover it and i never pursued it. I cant image it being that expensive as you only need to slide the transmission back a few inches. I would jack the car up and see if you have the part installed

Anyone figured out what the problem is?
I am getting the same rattle noise from the transmission area.

I want to check whether I should replace my flywheel like my mechanic is telling me or not.

Rattle sound can be heard in the following link:

What about when it's put in gear? I presume it's a DCT.

The sound comes up whether the car was in drive, neutral or reverse. The second I press on the pedal, the sound is gone!

My mechanics just replied to me saying that my car is missing the insulating pad! I am wondering whether this part is made of rubber or something that would melt. He is saying that there shouldn't be any issues since the car is moving perfectly and without slipping and that the pad melted and fell off.

Part number 4 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...10#28102284678

Does this sound right?

Zanderza had that exact problem and yes, he had that pad replaced fixing it and it wasn't the flywheel at all.
