Replace rear pads only?

Are we able to replace rear pads only or do you need to do rotors at the same time? I assume with fronts you should do both. But didn't know since tears carry lighter load if it would be ok to just change out pads? Anyone ?
Thanks

You only replace rotors if they're worn and need to be replaced. You can just replace brakes.

I changed my brakes about 3x so far on the same rotors.

Nice thanks
Do I need to do anything to rotors for prep or just put them on?

Just the typical brake break in.

I replaced the rear pads and sensor only on my 2014 LCI CP with 64,000 miles. No issues. I used the Carly for BMW Adapter to set the Electronic Parking Brake in Service Mode to retract the piston in the caliper.
Usual break-in procedure.

Can you elaborate how you set the parking brake in service mode? I need to change out my rear brake pads and it would be helpful to know what I need to do with regards to the electronic parking brake. Thanks!

I have done this manually on my 550i M Sport, but it's so easy using the Carly for BMW Adapter.
Once the Carly Adapter is connected to the OBDII Port, you go to Diagnostics, ABS / DSC / Brake, then down to Hand brake / EMF - from there you go into Service Mode, and the caliper piston will release (you will actually hear the motor retract). You can then remove the rear brake pads.
After installing the new brake pads, you reset the rear brakes with the Carly Adapter and/or the iDrive.

Thank you both for your input! I will be attempting changing the rear pads this upcoming weekend!

It's an app like the bimmercode app. Apps are like $25-30 and you get the Bluetooth adapter that best works with one of those 2 apps and you can code different things on your car
