F10 Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) Kit Install success w pictures

I recognize this topic has sparked some debate and my sanity may come into question but installed the Carbon Ceramic Brakes this past week replacing my factory Steels. I was able to source a new Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit (Part 34112317804) for far less than retail and able to make it work with my local dealer doing the install below their normal shop rate. The instructions suggested it would take 4 hours but realistically ended up taking 11 as they have to install a new booster and bleed all the lines as well as replacing all the rotors, pads, calipers, etc.

I decided to move forward for several reasons. First, I needed rotors and pads on all four corners and anticipate keeping the car at least 3 or 4 more years. Secondarily, I enjoy having peace of mind that I won’t need to replace the brakes again during my ownership, appreciate no brake dust and really dig the gold calipers and shiny rotors. I recognize I could have just painted my steels but that just didn’t sit too well with me. I’m not going to track the car – and there has been discussion that even if you track the car – you’ll have to replace the carbon ceramics anyways, etc. I think a lot of things came together and even though it wasn’t cheap – it was something I could manage.

The install went great with one hiccup towards the end. I only felt comfortable having a dealer install in lieu of an independent shop and glad I went this route. Even though the instructions suggest you don’t need to do any coding – the dealer insisted that coding or something needed to be done. They ran into snags as I had coded a few things myself using Bimmercode and the computer was not accepting whatever they were resetting – specifically suggesting I needed a new idrive controller? (I replaced mine with a ceramic one but that was plug & play with no coding)

After calling the home office in NJ to add the product code 2NK and resetting my “build sheet” I was good to go – no need for a new idrive controller, etc. Only downside is I have to recode all the previous changes again but that isn’t too difficult. I think this should satisfy my mod bug for at least a few months. 😊 Hope you enjoy as much as I did and I’ll try to get a full car shot sometime in the next few days.

One last comment – I noticed my M stickers on the front calipers are all white whereas I’ve seen others with the M colors. I’m curious why they are different and ordered some replacements from ebay for cheap if I decide to change.

Congrats on the upgrade, I'm supre you will be happy.

I have them on mine and I really like them.

Few words of advise.
-Certain cleaning agents will make them virtually useless for a short while, wise to use the brakes after cleaning the car.
-They do squeak a fair bit

I must admit I did laugh when you said you got them "far less than retail".
I checked prices for 4 rotors and pads, with my 15% discount at that parts dealer, I was quoted 22.700USD. Which was laughable considering that in my Country they are a 7700usd option when you order the car. Full price one front rotor was 6400usd.
At that price I was hoping I would never have to replace them.

Nice install and it doesn't look that difficult, just add one at a time to what your replacing the only thing being the tight confines of the booster?
Are you happy now with the performance and how is brake dust compared with when you had the steel ones.

Congrats to an amazing upgrade, absolutely stunning!
And thank you so much for the detailed technical information and documents, very helpful for others attempting the same modifications.

I planned on doing this upgrade shortly, but our newborn daughter deserves more attention at this point

I do have the retrofit kit in my garage though and a firm installation quote from my local BMW dealership, I will get it done next April, after winter time.
I’m very looking forward to having the kit installed, it’s a lot of money indeed!

I hope I can contact you in case questions arise, since my dealership doesn’t perform this costly upgrade on a regular basis.

Once again, congratulations and enjoy her in good health.
And by the way, I also did the ceramic iDrive controller upgrade, totally worth it.

Sure - feel free to reach out when installing - my dealer also was a novice as my Service Adviser had only seen it done on an M3 in 5 years...

Greatly appreciated, I can’t wait to get the parts installed.
How are you liking the performance and squealing so far?

Have had them on for about a week and a half - love the performance and didn't hear any squeaking until a few days ago at low speeds but not too loud. I guess I'm pretty used to it as my steel's did the same.... overall - happy with my upgrade.

Much worse when they are wet and in rain.
Fall has really set in where I live which means rain 5 days a week, squeaks a lot until I have used them and dried them off when the car has been parked outside.

Nice retrofit of some very serious braking components. Thanks for posting!

I hope you never have to replace the exorbitantly expensive rotors again though (shouldn't have to if you're only going to keep it for another few years, but at some point someone is going to get whacked!).

I would enjoy a DIY day a lot, I used to live in the GSO area for many years. After receiving an awesome offer to return to Germany, I decided to sell my BSM M5 and purchased a German imperial blue metallic M5 I will perform the upgrade to MCCB next spring, I plan on taking tons of pics and report back. She is hibernating now, stored away during the brutal German winter time. By the way, I dig the ceramic controls, recently installed the iDrive controller myself

This is common missconception. One can't compare price of _upgrade_ when buying new car. Upgrade price does not contain price of regular brake kit (standard fitment on car) which is also pretty expensive.

Quick question: Did you replace the whole control unit or just added the ceramic knobs? I could purchase a full set of ceramic control unit, but I don't know if the replacement is a hassle. Thanks for any insight

Excellent, I will purchase the control units then and upgrade the whole interior, like you. The ceramic surfaces are a subtle and luxurious upgrade, like the feel a lot!
