I think above shows someone who may have had the most consistent exposure to both.

I had a 2013 M5 for almost a year. Got rid of it. Test drove a 2014 with it, ordered my 2015 with it. I have a longer write up elsewhere, but basically I felt it resolved the issues with steering feel, handling, and had better exhaust. I also did not feel that the cp car was in anyway too harsh or compromised ride quality.

Now that I have been looking at non cp vs cp cars, I think visually cp looks better to me too. Too much space between tires and body of car without it.

As stealth says though, I ordered mine with almost all options. Went with blacked out 343M wheels so the 601M had nothing to do with it for me.

Good luck.

I regret not getting the CP though I hate 601 and would never pay premium for cast !
But wanting to make my car louder now and lower and true !! More cost than CP if lease.

But;
There is a problem with your take
You can't just can't compare non LCI 2013 to LCI CP and attribute all the difference to CP as there are so many changes between 13 and 14 LCI non CP!! CP can't claim all the refresh and upgrade probably not even 50%

My 2 cents

Do it! Your going to regret not getting a $6k option on a six figure car. I'm leasing so it was a no brainer, until you actually drive a CP car and not a "test drive" that's when you will see its worth it.

Is your CP car a daily driver?

It's my DD and I also have a E92 M3. The CP F10 M5 is much more compliant than my CP M3 when both are in comfort.

It is true that you can modify a non-CP car to be louder, lower, firmer and have different wheels that are lighter or more attractive (subject to taste), for the price of CP or less. It all depends on whether you want OEM parts or want aftermarket parts.

On my M3 I modified a number of things in a non-OEM manner (Akra exhaust, forged wheels etc). Just didn't want to do it with the M5. On a lease it is about $2500 - that's the number for comparing. If you are purchasing, the numbers are different.

In the end, it is true that the CP is expensive but so are many of the other options (try pricing out deviated stitching for an individual order if you want to see crazy numbers). It was worth it for me (my car is loaded with everything except night vision and rear entertainment) but might not be for others.

To the OP, enjoy it.

Happy to hear that the CP F10 is not as harsh as the E92 CP M3, when in comfort mode. I drove the E92 CP M3 as a daily driver for 3 years, and am currently in a 2014 550i (looking to upgrade to the F10 M) and I've gotten used to the creature comforts the 5 series has to offer.

My wife had a F10 550xi. She got a Cayenne, and I drove the 550xi for a few months (my M3 is a weekend/nice day car). The M5 will not be as soft as a 550xi (even with the M sport package) but will be much more compliant than your M3. My impression is that the range from Comfort-Sport-Sport Plus is much greater in the M5 than the M3.

Get it -- it's worth it. The steering upgrade alone is worth it. The entire upgrade cost of $7K might not seem worth it, but the difference between non-CP and CP is night and day.
