Protects the hot side from the cool side?! Amazing how these blankets are the EXACT same shape as the factory heat shield, I don't see ANYTHING separating the hot side from the cold side that's ANY different, but I'm guessing they sprinkle unicorn and pixie dust into the volcanic ash used to make said blankets. I know how to read, but I also know that companies will provide a sales pitch to push product, this isn't new shit either.

As I've said, custom applications like Ruben justify the costs since we can assume his turbos no longer fit under the stock heat shield. If you're so convinced that these are going to make such a huge difference on a stock vehicle such as your own, then by all means post up before and after dyno runs. In the meantime I've got some ocean front property in Montana that I'd love to sell you if you'd just go read my website.

They're far from useless...unless the factory already provided one that accomplishes the same thing. It's just $500 better spent elsewhere unless it's a situation like Ruben where the stock cover no longer fits.

The turbos in his setup sit higher - I don't know all the details but I would speculate that it is because they may have used the stock manifold and built some kind of an adaptor (V-band to the existing manifold and V-band to the Borg-W's).

Alternatively its a tough manifold to make so it may inherently sit higher

They are useful to shield nearby wires, components, intakes and generally keep underhood temps down. They also help keep the turbine side retain its heat inside which is a good thing.

I had tried using a blanket on the stock housings a while ago but couldn't find anything that fit... I have a set unused if anybody wants it!

All the things the stock cover does, agreed?

Hence why the stock cover no longer fits and turbo blankets were his easiest option, agreed?

Yup - except contain some of the exhaust heat within the turbine housing itself.

I only want to be one friendly enthusiast to another, i respect your opinion, hoping you can respect mine, i do get your point about the standard heat shield, and it is a good measure for sure. But its just not the same as a proper jacket, try putting your hand on the standard heat shield after a run.

Also its not a BHP gaining exercise, just don't want to loose BHP due to heat loosely escaping causing higher under bonnet temps / heat soak etc. The jackets will hold the heat in extremely well, rendering the stock cover superfluous to needs

Ruben7520 and allmotor_2000 both bought blankets for mostly similar reasons to me, so guess they'll be buying some of your ocean fronted property too

Chill out dude, lets keep the peace, and least you've learned something new today

i will order some and let you know how i get on

End of !!

Ehhh i actually looked above and saw its $500, not worth it unless stock one didn't fit over the turbo's like OP.

Who said Ruben had a stock motor ?
His motor is built so it should be able to make some big power

There we are, all wrapped up, cant use turbo jackets as there are none that fit properly due to the weird shape of the turbos. So now the excess heat is fully contained, so far it seems to keep things cooler but waiting to test with my temp gun.

I just have an issue with the stock shield as it does not contain the heat, it leaks out the sides, plus once the it gets hot you then have conductive heat and your back to square one. Its just a sheet of molded metal and metal is best conductor of heat.

Anyway, looks better now, and had fun doing it - and on the plus side the wrap absorbs 80% of the wastgate rattle noise.

Looks good! I wonder if you could still use the heat shield as well for another layer of protection.

What's wrapped around the coolant feed lines?

What temperature did your temp gun find with the stock configuration?

Nice job wrapping the turbo cooling lines. I've considered that but was only going to do the less hot incoming lines on the right.

Thanks man, im debating that myself, but will do some further tests first. The coolant lines i'm re-doing in Cool-It Express Sleeves all the way to the end, they just velcro on and can cope with 2000 degrees - perfect

The X5M has rubber lines and never got the upgrade snap on ends you guys got either. I figure if I keep modding that keeping those lines cool is a good idea.
