battery discharge

Does anyone have a problem with battery discharging when car not being used.

This is the message i get on screen.

Increased battery discharge when stationary.

Electrical consumers were temporarily switched off.

Dealer has had car all day, and has only said some thing is draining battery

but does not know what, keeping car overnight.

So without car again.

I got the same message recently. I thought it was because of my ipod, and/or my radar detector was not automatically shut off. More leaning towards the ipod because the ipod itself never shuts off. Let me know what the dealer finds out, because I will bring mine in too if it is a problem.

This probably isn't what your problem is but I recently spoke with a guy who has a 5 series. He kept his key in the vehicle overnight and it drained it. For some reason the key being in it kept certain things charged.
My only problem with battery was when the car was first delivered and the genius at dealership drained it learning all the new features.
Hope your peoblem resolves.

Hi Rizz

Thanks for info. so far so good with battery problem.

Moral of story is to keep engine ticking over when playing with all new toys on x4.

Only problem is it eats fuel when just ticking over, see eco pro graph/

Funny, it happened the same to me this weekend. Since 5 months I have my X4, I went for the 2nd time to the DIY Cleaning park.
-The 1st time I went there, I experienced a funny situation, where the trunk open itself because I was to close to the trunk and the Highpression water gun was in the direction of the sensor.
-So last Saturday, I decided to avoid this situation, and let the key in the car. Washed my car during 20 minutes. Cleaning finished, I sat again in my car, and here came the warning that the battery lost a lot of it charge due to unknown reason! Strange.

I just encountered the same issue this weekend. Been trickle charging it. We will see if the message goes away. I have nothing aftermarket plugged in anywhere. I drive from Castro Valley to SJ 60 miles round trip and still get that message.

So my X4 has been at the dealer for a few days and the diagnosis is that the sunroof module isnt going to a sleep state correctly and is staying powered on. They are replacing it.

Update: Dealer said they installed the wrong module so they need to keep the X4 for 7 days till they can get the right module shipped from Germany.

I just purchased an x4 last Saturday. The x4 I test drove had the battery discharge issue. My x4 also had the same issue, with only 5 miles on her. They updated the software for charge/discharge and replaced the battery. So far so good. I had a new 3 series for a loaner and it reached -20 F and that car also got the same message. I was told that the programming from the factory isn't right for the climate I live in.

Well looking how I live In California and the weather is around 70s right now. I think the reprogrammed alone would not help. Maybe their are multiple causes to the increased battery discharge message. Curious to see if the reprograming holds and keeps the warning message away.

So I went again to the carwash this weekend. The same I use to go, where you do everything yourself. it avoid scratches you can get in automatic carwash.

Like the previous time, I let the carkey Inside the car, in order to prevent the famous "tailgate opening while cleaning the car". Before I exit the car, I pusched twice on the stop button which is the regular process to leave the car in "turned off" mode.

Note that this time i did not leave the key in the middle console near the gearshift, but in the driver's door.

i cleaned the car during 20 min. Sat in the car again, turned the engine on, and here it came again.

So:
- keeping the keys Inside the car while cleaning it is not the ideal solution = battery discharge.
- keeping it in the pocket while cleaning it not th ideal solution = tailgate may open

So how do you guys clean your car?

No tailgate opening, but locks door sometimes.

Just came back from cleaning my car (what a coincidence :-) ). Left my key in my coat in the car, like I always do. Pushed power button twice to switch everything off. Cleaned the car during 15-20 mins (regularly this even takes longer). No issues at all.... Did this already 10-15 times, never had a problem.

I remember I once had the trunk opening, but I assumed that was due to the sensor being activated by the high pressure water spray.

Will keep an eye on this and report back when I would see an issue.

I usually put my key in my pocket or down on a table or in my garage when i wash my car. Never had tailgate opening. I do lock the doors a lot though.
