2015 M5 Launch Control feature discontinued?

I brought my car to the dealer because I couldn't get launch control to work. I waited until after the first oil change to try using it as I wanted to be sure the car was well broken-in. The car has 9k miles on it now.

I had a 2013 M5 and used launch control at least a dozen times with no problem... so I know how to do it. And, just FYI, I had issues with my 2013 that couldn't be resolved, so BMW NA stepped up and put me in a new 2015.

The BMW center has had my 2015 M5 Comp Pkg. for 10 days now and cannot get launch control to work either. They have been told by the BMW field rep that it may be due to the tire temperature (latest TPM measures individual pressure and temp of tires) not being high enough, but he's not sure whether this is an interlock or not. No answer on this yet.

Today the dealership was told that the feature may have been discontinued. WTF? Really? The car's internal owner's manual has a whole section describing how to do it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Has anyone with a 2015 successfully used launch control? Anyone hear about it being discontinued? Look, I love BMW's and both my wife and I have had a whole bunch.... but why does BMW not know what's going on with it's cars?!

Might just be ambient temperature. My LC will not work if it's 40°F or below. I've never seen that documented, even went to the dealer ( no help). Once above 40 and oil temp is up, bang!

Ambient temp was in the mid-50's when I first tried.

Took re-delivery of my 2015 M5 CP last week. As soon as I hit 1200 miles and can try it I will re post. Unfortunately weather stinks in NY so car has been sitting in the garage with 200 miles on it.

Feature only works when driving for some miles / kilometers so that the engine is warm. I think 20 mins or so the manual says. If you try to activate the feature before it won't work. And it's quite tricky to activate it the first time. You also have to switch of DSC completely. Stick to the manual and tell me if it works then. Good luck. Discontinuance would not be nice...

It's the worse feature in the car, either it's too hot or not warm enough ......it's not worth the trouble using. I've had my M5 since 2012 I gave up. My GT3 put in auto mode, mash the brake and gas then remove foot of brake boom you're launched. You can do it over and over, and over will not heat up. Good luck.

That's completely BS. LC is a software and not hardware. They might disable (lock out) LC but not removing anything. I had my car in service last week for couple fixes and they upgraded software. LC is still available. I'm gonna drop my car this car again due to some parts they ordered last week and will receive this week. I will ask my SA and will let you know if they have disabled this feature...

Agreed. I can lunch my car better than LC by selecting DSC OFF/S3/Sport+/Sport/Comfort

Semler3 - were you able to get your launch control to work. I have a 2015 June build with competition package that has just had the 1200 break in service completed. I can not get the LC to engage and neither can the dealership. I am frustrated. Like you, I have prior experience with the F10 and had no problems with it.

Damn thats bad news.
I'm getting my 1200 mile service in the next few weeks, I was looking forward to this.
My 550i LC was a joke.

You can add me to that list.

2014 produced 6/14 and sold new to me 7/15 (sat for a while due to mis-delivery), 3000km and in-service check done on schedule...no LC.

Have not had the time to get it looked at yet.

As others have said the BMW LC feature on RWD cars is a farce it gives neither a launch nor control and they have all been pants whether on the SMG e46 m3 or DCT and that was with sub 300lb/ft with over 500lb/ft I shudder to think of the outcome.

The rears just spin up, any camber on the road and the car crabs sideways it's dreadful and I cannot believe the M engineers tested that and thought yep that's great.

If you haven't got it you're not missing anything in my opinion.

I can confirm LC works on 2015s.

I got my service done at 940 miles and it wasn't there.

After I hit 1200 miles I tried it. Didn't work.

Next day I had 1222 miles, drove around a bit to see if maybe the car needed to be turned off and cycle it self after hitting 1200miles.

Its been working ever since.
