Ha, that's my dream garage! We had the Macan S and an M225 (still have that one). Unless you need to haul a boat or lots of kids or something I cannot imagine a better combo to have in the garage.

I nearly posted this but well done OP.

God I despise Sutcliffe. This is just pointless beyond belief....? Where do you start, I haven't ranted about him for a bit so......

SUV v Coupe
AWD v RWD
Manual v Auto for christs sake!!!!
£62k v £44k

Then.....look at the very end of the M2 run......HE IS CLEARLY EASING OFF AND ACTUALLY CHANGING DOWN GEARS BEFORE THE 46 second mark. WTF HOWIS THIS VIABLE JOURNALISM.

Then low and behold it's 'only' a narrow victory for the M2. Shame on you BMW in a very subtle way. Job done Sutcliffe you absolute muppet.

Next week a rolling lap 911 Turbo S V the X5 3.0D from a standing start loaded up with a family of 5 and holiday gear. Awesome.

it's impressive on both ends really. porsche in the past few years really has been a freak of engineering. so the fact that the m2 is faster and costs that much less is impressive, but at the same time it's impressive that the macan is almost as fast as a tiny sports car that aims for only lap times. either way it's a good scenario.

I'd love a Macan or Jag FPace for a fun SUV. I was really surprised just how fun the FPace was to drive, sounded proper too. Those 2 make a better comparison.

I'm no pro, like you clearly must be, but I didn't see where this guy drove anything less than quite well?

Are you capable of getting a Porsche Macan within .5 seconds of an M2?

46 sec in on the M2 run - why is he slowing down and shifting gears???

He's a knob and this comparison is pointless. I've driven both and they're not even remotely alike. Is the macan good? Hell yes, spectacular. Is it as good as he made it seem? Not even close.

Also, in Canada, that is comparing a $61K car to a $115K car. You could almost buy two M2's.

Why did you get rid of the Macan? I have a deposit on a Macan GTS, but would need to get rid of the M3 and I'm starting to have doubts and may be asking for my deposit back.

Okay, but a Macan Turbo starts at $76k, with my build someplace approaching $100k.

Have you driven one? I feel only the Macan Turbo comes close to the M3 in terms of excitement. The GTS wasn't available at the time and the S didn't cut it.

Everything else aside; go to 2:20. He let off the M2 before he crossed the line. It's time should have been 1s faster.

I'd go with Macan + Cayman for mine.

The lap ended on the straight before he braked for the first turn. The editor took some liberties and kept the visual timer running until the driver read it out himself.

They didn't do that for the Macan's lap for whatever reason - they stopped the visual time when the lap ended on the straight.

The track is super short, the gap would be more like 1.5 sec on a ~90sec track

Got it for dad as his daily. Literally only reason it's gone is that he needed something closer to the ground to get in and out of easily. He has hip and knee problems.

That said it's an amazing car. I drove it from Philly to buffalo and back in under 24 hours and loved every minute of the 11 hours I was driving. Yes, that's very fast for that trip

Regarding S vs Turbo, be realistic about what you're doing with the car. I've driven both and honestly it wasn't worth the price premium to me for the kind of driving we planned for the car. The S is plenty fast for what we were doing.

Is it an M3? No. Is it a lot more versatile and still fun to drive? Absolutely. If you need the AWD and room and still want something fast your options are basically Macan, E63 (which I don't like) Panamera (new one supposed to be nice) and S5 sport back (due in 10-12 months). Those are at least the only things I'd look at.

Macan Turbo was on our shopping list but was very very expensive for a family hauler. Went with an X1 instead and will probably look for an E46 M3 again or possibly an LCI M2.

People do realize that Sutcliffe is a former race car driver, who knows what he's doing. I really don't know what video some of you are watching.
