I don't think this is making it to the front of Bimmerpost.

Yea, he definitely did not like the M4GTS, that car seems to be getting bad press. On the other hand, it did seem as if he really liked the M2, but liked the VW GTI Clubsport better due to it "surprising" him. Do we even get that car in the US? I guess almost making the top 5 in that group of cars is pretty damn good though. I still think the M2, "punches above it's weight". Pound for pound, it's like Floyd Mayweather, haha.

Agree with many of you, Harris is my favorite as well. Certain helps when you have the skill to backup the talk. A lot of Tubers are trying hard, but it comes naturally for Chris.

As for the comparison, I'm quite happy with where the M2 ended up. I'm sure the 1M would be in his top 5 since he just purchased one.

Good point regarding the back seats. The Alfa is nice though, will definitely consider that car one day. You can also retro fit back seats in the 911R, but I doubt anyone is changing anything in a 600K+ car... Yep there's one for sale at the moment.

I was expecting the M2 to be in there instead of the Alfa. Does it really drive that well?

I've only sat in one in a car show. Looks great and definitely more unique than what BMW has to offer. Reliability will always be a concern. If it is as well tuned as the 4C, I'll have to agree with Harris. Nothing available here for a test drive yet.

The Alfa seems to be the real deal...

At least from reviews I have seen from various journalists, it provides more smiles than the M3 it seems.

And this is just the first year... Alfa is on to something and lets see if they can keep it up because this is a HUGE car for their continued existence. I have a good feeling for the Gulia Quad, especially in its second year and beyond. If nothing more, it is going to up the game for BMW, Mercedes, and Audi.

As for the M2, I believe Chris Harris really liked the car, and honestly, that's all that matters. (Especially since the Alfa is in a higher price bracket...comparable to the M3).

The Alfa is certainly an interesting proposition and interesting in what he thought of the Ford RS.

From the magazine:

Quote:
For similar money, BMW won’t sell you an M2 – which is a crying shame because, as you probably already know, it’s a crackerjack of a car that embodies all that is right about driving and BMW’s ability to make stuff for people like you and me.

It felt a little underpowered at times around the Red Bull Ring, but only in the perfectly pointless context of trying to instigate and maintain a third gear 75mph uphill drift. Otherwise this car competes with the Golf and Fiesta for sheer force of personality. The inherent rightness of the package – size, potency, orientation, grip – makes for a driving experience that leaves you wondering what more you could possibly want. Actually, I’m a fussy git, so I’d ideally like bigger brakes, more poke and a more supportive driver’s seat. And BMW would tell me to buy an M3.

And despite this being such a fun machine, I think I would still have an M3 instead. People are paying a premium for M2s in the UK that makes them more expensive than the faster, even more capable M3, and that’s just silly. But unlike the Focus RS, the M2 does live up to all the hype.
So he would rather have an M3 because some people pay markup on the M2? Then at the back of the magazine M2 is rated 9/10 and the M3 is 8/10.

It's the Golf GTI Clubsport S (not the regular one without the S), of which something like 400 are produced in total. As much as I like Chris Harris, I think it is pointless to compare the unobtainable Clubsport S or the unobtainable 911R to regular cars like the Alfa or the M2, it simply does not make sense. Nobody who is actually watching that review will ever be able to get one of these, so why even compare?

I think he Golf is exciting enough in many aspects (not as a daily) and for about 3 laps on any track for me: After that I will be bored by the fwd tendency of the chassis anyway! But a great hothatch nontheless.

Alfa looks/is more than great, but doing a few trackdays with one of those and I'll be standing in the pits with all the possible lights on I 'm sure

911R is overrated(understatement) Get a 991GT3RS or GT4 or Caterham 620R and be done with the purist's nonsense

Anytime an M4 GTS anytime. Greatest racer for the road BMW made since the M3CSL.

But there has to be some deliberate(?) controversy in any TG review doesn't it? Clickbait...

For me there was only one car in the lineup:
488 no contest.

But I'm more than happy with my M2 having been on track with it.

Cheers
Robin

Yeah, I really love Chris Harris on cars! He's the man.

But since he is sold to TopGear I'm not so sure that he's still able to review so independently...

I mean you can see that he really loves driving the 488, but for "audience reasons" it has to be the 675 LT Spider... Same with Golf Clubsport S. And in the last Sport Auto they tested the Clubsport Golf without those semi-Slick tyres and it was awful they said.

I mean who has chosen this lineup? I think it wasn't CH himself...

Over an M3 CRT? I know which one would be more fun, and it's the one with a 8000rpm na v8 attached to a titanium exhaust...

EVO mag is doing their car of the year testing with an M2 and M4 GTS in it (along with C63S and Giulia QV).

The top spots will likely be split between 911R, 488, and McLaren, but it will be interesting to see how the "regular" cars fare against each other.

And this guy voted M2 as last/10th...

Thank you mr Taylor! You know exactly just as much about cars as a cow knows about a hot meal.
