G01 - INFO from AMuS

Auto Motor och Sport Svenska, which cooperates with Auto Motor und Sport in Germany has details and a "picture" of G01.

They claim, which I have seen before, that size is unchanged, but weight is reduced by about 80kg. This requires a substantial re-engineering of architecture and some moving body parts in aluminium.

The "picture" is a detailed rendering, which reveals:
-body sides are close to them on current X5 - not surprisingly.
-rear end has had a major revision - again towards X5 and X1. In my eyes not altogether positive.

I forgot - AMuS claims that there will be no pure M model, but a M Performance.

I take it X4 will inherit bodysides but, hopefully, a nicer rear.

Altogether this indicates that happy X3 owners will be even more happy, but it will, probably, be tough to lure new customers.

Okay now here is my question. How come X3 lost 80kg with "carbon core" technology while Audi reduced 100kg from previous model and there was no such a carbon technology whatsoever.

///M, I did not claim BMW use "carbon core" technology, but VW has developed a very good architecture - really two, one transverse and one longitudinal engine installation- which saves about 80 kg from previous architecture. They donīt need to use expensive materials - like carbon, magnesium and aluminium - but might do it anyway in some "exotic" models, hence the 100 kg.

BMW is currently using a lot of al in chassis components - not so in X3/X4 body.

BMW is supposedly using new 3-series architecture for G01/G02, but with some unique parts for X3/X4. I have seen somewhere that BMW is supposedly utilising its manufacturing of carbon for electric vehicles, to reduce weight in new architecture.
