BMW X3 M40i ORDERING FYI

I thought I'd put together a list of FYIs based on recent order feedback to avoid surprises for people negotiating a deal:

M Sport Steering Shortage: M40i build will be getting the regular leather sport steering wheel in NA. Do we know which markets are getting the M Sport steering wheel vs those that will not?

Ventilated Seats: Only available in Vernasca Black, Canberra and Mocha. Ventilated seats do not have side bolster adjustments on their seats

Active Lane Change Assist: Available starting in December 2017 builds only

Tire Spare: Addition of a spare tire raises the trunk floor by a couple of inches

Temperature Airflow Dial: This s no longer available on the dash. If you used it to adjust the airflow temp on the dash this might now be buried in the settings menus. Has anyone found it i the iDrive menu?

Anything else worth adding?

I think we know that Europe and South Africa get the ///M Steering Wheel.

Spare tire also eliminates storage space for the cargo cover and the metal rails with adjustable tie downs in the cargo area. Trunk floor is raised about 3 inches.

Early orders required ordering the Wireless Charging. Unknown when that will be relaxed.

Spain:

M Sport wheel in Spain (710 is the code).

Same with ventilated seats, only three options and the side adjustment disappears (in addition ventilated seats is +1300 euros). I prefer the sport ones

There is no option for tyre spare here.

Haven't seen the air wheel in the dash in any picture.

20'' run flat as standard

And despite what "updated" standard options list shows (after they finally updated to reflect non-M Sport steering wheel), the steering wheel is NOT power tilt/telescopic--it is still manual.

You just press a control when you want to change lanes, and the car will change lanes for you, if clear.

While Active Cruise Control is activated this feature lets your car make a safe lane change for you after you hold down the indicator switch for a couple of seconds. It's not the most useful feature but used in their videos highlighting the automated driving.

OH okay. Gotcha. I didn't read much into those features, I have no desire for a car to drive for me. (Not hating on people who do).

Many states don't allow tint on the windshield or front side windows. If you're seeing it on other makes, it's the dealerships doing it, not the factory.

I believe that would be 715 Aerodynamic Kit, listed in the ordering guide sticky at the top of this forum. It's standard on M40i and in the M Sport package for the 30i.

There are a lot of fine details that you don't see on the configurator or are hidden in a big list of standard equipment.

This was corrected/resolved in late September. My original order date of 9/16 had it and it couldn't be deleted, but it was fixed on 9/20 and I received an updated order sheet with it removed.

It's most likely in the iDrive menu, and can be quickly accessed from the 'menu' button on the AC controls.

I would say its similar to the new 5 and 7.

Correct, it's a bit of a pain but you get used to it, as you say push one button and you're there.

BMW has confirmed that my week 49 X3 M40i will have Active Lane Change Assist. Thanks for raising the issue - I would have to have ordered the car to find that one of the toys was missing.

But Week 49 is in December so wouldn't that already confirm it? May I ask who did you contact, BMW Genius?

That's funny. When dealer tried to put my order in on 9/28, system told him that he had to include it.

You are correct that it is a December 4-10 build. But my experience with these things is that when they say it will be added in December, it does not necessarily mean all of December - it could be something that only happens part way through...

I went through the owner of the dealership that I have been buying cars from her and her father for over 27 years.

They have made an inquiry on my behalf regarding the comfort access foot swipe and the trailer tow hitch. I will post the results of the inquiry when I get them.

I really appreciate the frank discussions on this board. It will be interesting to continue to follow once more people receive their cars.
