installed 6ks
upgraded to 6k HID bulbs. Looks much better than OE IMO. The OEM bulbs look good right when they start up. But when they warm up they turn yellow
I took pics with the right headlight with the 6k and the left headlight with 4300k. Not sure if the pics came out great. Last edited by MMMazing07; 05-21-2008 at 09:56 PM.. |

I'm interested in upgrading to 6000k HID bulbs. Which brand did you go with? Is there a thread on how to change the bulbs?

apexcone from EAS
its pretty easy to change. Directly from bimmerzealot Ya for driver side (swap for passenger side) turn wheel 2.5 turns right aka all the way right, look inside fender well you'll see two panels with 2 flat head like screws on each one. Using a quarter or any other flat fat object turn both screws on the TOP panel (bottom one for fogs) the cover will then open up. Inside you will see the back of the headlight... Wait I just realized you said you replaced the sidemarkers, okay so you moved the silver retainer bar down to remove the back cover on the headlight for the sidemarkers. Well behind that same housing you'll see a square "plug" turn it counter-clockwise 1/4 turn and pull off then you'll see the back of the HID bulb, releases the two hooks on the base of the bulb and you can change out the bulb. Repeat |

it actually isnt dirty. just the reflection from all the leaves and twigs on the ground. heres a pic i just took from my garage. This is what it looks like when you press the high beams on when car is totally off. Looks really cool without the orange brow
its not easy to take pics of bright lights. the reflection fucks up everything |

People, don't change your HIDs. Your stock bulbs have the MOST light output of any available HID bulb, and "downgrading" to 6k or more HIDs reduces your light output greatly. Its more than what you can see, its about what others see. Its also a distraction to others at night.
I admit the 6k bulbs are a modest "downgrade" and not nearly as bad as some idiots who go to 8k and beyond. Still, you're paying a lot of money for something that you're the only one who will ever notice, and you're reducing light output. to this mod, sorry OP. |

i know it will reduces light output. you made a post in another thread about this. honestly i couldnt notice a loss in light output. IMO the visibile difference is when you do 8k 10k etc like you said. Its not really about the output i was looking to change the color.
6k is a good balance of light output and color IMHO. |
