New diffuser comparison - second one is the new one
I had a carbon fiber diffuser from an ebay purchase that worked but didn't fit like OEM. eBay let me keep it and refunded my money. Second one is from ebay as well, perfect fitment. The first one, carbon fiber, sat against the OEM lower bumper cover. The second one included a lower bumper cover where the diffuser fit INTO the lower cover - much cleaner in my opinion. Now the debate is whether the CF trunk spoiler looks out of place or fine. I could switch it out for an OEM M performance body colored spoiler, which is in my garage - tried to paint it myself today, did not work out well... For reference, my car is sapphire black, so this gloss black matches pretty well. Also debating whether I wrap the rear deflectors...

IMO deleting the rear reflectors gives it a cleaner look. IND makes a paint matched set that does the trick very well.

Debadged completely and wrapped the rear reflectors for now, just to see how they look as getting them out is a pain and you have to remove the bumper cover to do it easily. Looks better and debadging looks better as the regular OEM 540 badge looks way too small for this car anyway, so obviously not putting that one back on. Might look better in gloss black but the chrome has always looked weird to me. xDrive badge is gone too...

Why thank you... was getting tired of people whining about the M540 badge but i know everyone has an opinion on badging cars incorrectly. I'll just get the cerium M540i badge! i do love the all black look. very mean. was debating the side skirt extensions but enough is enough, it starts to look overdone at some point I think.
Weird that the picture make my look dark blue...sapphire black metallic. Last edited by dlf750; 04-24-2019 at 05:35 PM.. |

2nd diffuser looks waaaay better due to having the proper bumper insert.
Does the first CF diffuser you had not fit into the bumper insert from the 2nd one? The all black diffuser does actually look good, but I think if you could fit the CF diffuser in that insert, you would have a great look with CF spoiler, black insert, CF diffuser. If not and you have to keep the black diffuser, I think I would lean towards the black spoiler to match. |

Thanks Mobilejo. That's what I was thinking. So...the CF diffuser I had was made specifically for the insert that came with it, which had tab cutouts in the lower bumper insert, not an indent like an OEM insert. It will technically fit on the car but I don't know how well it would fit with the current insert because the "new" one is produced more like the OEM model. I'd have to remove the entire setup, unscrew the gloss black diffuser from the gloss black insert and see if the CF would fit in there nicely or not. It's kind of a pain to redo it all but not impossible. I'll save the CF for now and see if I feel like monkeying with it on a nice day. Crappy here in Chicago lately.
If I could unscrew the current diffuser from the insert while it's on the car, it would be much simpler but I can't get to the back of the insert while it's installed. |

Great fitment. Only issue was there holes underneath the car, on the diffuser, did not lineup with the factory holes - you don't really need them but i just drilled the holes on the diffuser to lineup and it worked fine. Seller actually refunded me some of my purchase price for that issue. |

Probably takes about 15-20 minutes max, besides the drilling of the holes, which you may not need to do. All you do is remove about 5-7 screws from under the bumper, pop out the old one and pop in the new one - the diffuser comes attached to the new lower bumper cover. You just screw it back on, instant gratification. You WILL need to use your current rear bumper reflectors though on the new one. Easy to get out once the cover is removed. I found that using a pair of pliers on the back of each reflector, gently, loosens them easily and they just pop into the new bumper. I ended up wrapping them in gloss black vinyl for a sleeker look. You can also paint them but wrapping is much easier.
This set of removal tools helps quite a bit, bought it years ago and have used it often... https://smile.amazon.com/Sunplustrad...-2-spons&psc=1 |

Seller said my yr isn't with in the fitment list so he assumes it wouldn't fit? Was there any changes from 2018 to 2019?

no way. model doesn't change until next year for the LCI. it should fit perfectly as long as you can replace the lower bumper cover. mine has the M package for what that's worth. if you do, I wouldn't worry about fitment at all. Material-wise, I can't exactly recall but I would say it is thinner than OEM but once it's on the car, you can't tell at all. I haven't had it loosen up at all or come apart at the clips. I'm actually shocked at how well it fit. well worth the price, trust me.
