Bad lag in some conditions...
So I've had my X2 2.0 S drive for about a month now.
Tested it in normal driving conditions. Mostly it's okay, but in some situations the lag is terrible. When moving off from a very low speed and wanting quick acceleration, either the engine turbo lag or the transmission not kicking down quickly enough, results in a painful and potentially dangerous delay. I notice this when coming to a give-way sign then accelerating without having stopped completely. Or when merging with high speed traffic, or even trying to scoot past cars in traffic. Makes me lose a little confidence in whether the car will respond in time. Using Power mode makes it better, but not completely eliminated. Rather disappointing that a modern 2.0 petrol turbo only makes 141kW and still has this horrible lag. Note this is the non-US model with 7 speed DSG gearbox..

Interesting that it happens with that transmission. There was a lot of talk about that with the x1 with 8 speed and most thought it was trans.
I can say it either got better over time or I learned to compensate because it didn’t bother me for long. |

I've clocked in 700 miles on my car and haven't quite gotten used to it even in sport mode. I feel the pedals are still a little touchy, both the accel and the brake. There is a small dead spot in the gas, however, and so twice today I got caught when someone let me make a left turn so I was pressing a little slower on the gas and then.. boom it was too much. Haha. I know for a fact it is that little spot on the pedal, not that the transmission isn't engaged.. Wife noticed a little of that on her X1, but sports mode sharpened it up a little. Still the same behavior though.

I’m talking about idling around in a parking lot and such. I don’t mind it above that speed.

Maybe the bms pedal tuner could fix it?

I have partly wondered if the pedalbox would fix the dead spot. It is touchy when idle/moving around. I've gotten more used to the brake pedal, but it still is also a little grabby. I've read one or two reviews that said it was a little too sensitive, which put my mind at ease that it wasn't just me complaining. When going up my parking garage at work I always dumb it down to comfort mode so when I am stopped and go again going up a ramp it's not so jerky.

The same happen to my 7-speed DCT, haven't heard of any other BMW model using the B48 have the same problem, I guess the transmission must be the cause of the problem. It is dangerous in some busy traffic condition. I wonder why USA model using the ZF 8-speed and the rest using DCT, likewise happen in VW DSG never used in the U.S. Manufacturers are smart to avoid lawsuits!

i do also have a 7-speed DCT 2.0T petrol engine as well and also notice that in comfort mode. It seems it is the pedal map which delays a lot but sport mode definitely overcome this problem. I am thinking going to remap stage1 setting, heard it will tackle this problem.

I think it might be due to the 'learning' mode of the electronic accelerator... Always trying to push for economy rather than responsiveness . So it's sitting in a much higher gear ratio than it should.
Putting the gearstick in sport mode also helps reduce this delay a little.

Other than this hesitation problem, I found the car jerky on an uphill slow speed situation. Every morning I have to drive through a small slope at about 25-30km/h uphill with speed bump, it seems to shift between 1st and 2nd gear, making the car jerk while changing the gear back and forth. I solve the problem by putting the shift lever in Sport (not sport mode), it kind of lock the gear until 3500rpm before shifting to 2nd by itself, drastically reduced the jerky feeling with less gear changes.

Have you been to the garage to update the iLevel? I did with mine and it made a huge difference for the behaviour of the gearbox. Also the powersteering is much better now!
