M340i - Touring or Saloon

First world problems.

Wife and 2 kids, 4 and 2.

Bit of background, I had a well specced 330D up until 2 years ago. Got into a Golf R thinking it was a stop gap until the G20. But my commutes changed and the lack of refinement I'm itching to get out of the R now.

Been only looking at the 340i Saloon, but seen a few tourings and the wife likes it. She has a Macan, which is supposed to be the family car, but when we drive around as a family, I do prefer the golf as its smaller and quicker and it's me doing all the driving really. And tbh the Macan isn't that practical.

We're on a family road trip to France next year. Either way going to take the new 340i.

Is it that more practical for the touring? The touring looks pretty nice, but the saloon looks nicer to me. I would just pack accordingly.

All comments welcome.
"keep the wife happy"
"its ur car"
"there's hardly any difference in performance/economy"
"touring looks fantastic"

I’ve had my M340i saloon a month now and the day after l picked it up me, my wife and my daughter went to Northumberland in it for a week. The car was rammed and l’m a cyclist but didn’t have room in the car for my bike and didn’t want to stick it on a roof rack or on the back of the car either.

Undoubtedly the touring would have been much more suited to this trip but about 75% of the time l am alone in my car travelling for work and business and 20% of the time tootling around with my wife and daughter or doing the school run. I have never liked the design of touring cars (they remind me of hearses) and l much prefer the saloon. So l figured I wasn’t going to buy a car for what l ‘might’ need 5% of the time or less. And we managed in the saloon on the trip to Northumberland.

I can see the advantages of having a touring for the greater space and practically but it has always been saloons all the way for me.

Tbh fact you are considering the saloon means you don’t need the touring space, you already stated you prefer the saloon looks. Just go with you’re gut choice mate. I have the touring it’s fucking amazing so practical for me and I prefer the looks but it’s all about personal choice and circumstances.

I also prefer the look of the Touring, always have, especially the 3 series.
I'm currently in a 2015 F31 330D PPK. I'm so tempted to go for the new M340 Touring. Comes with a great spec and I would only add the Shadowline plus, HK and Lights package.
I'd clear my loans by selling my car and have more than enough for PCP. Never owned a new car and I just miss that petrol engine as great as my 330d is. Once in a lifetime chance probably!!
What colour have people gone for, I'm leaning towards Portimao. Have black now and it's so hard to keep clean.

I've just got a 330e saloon but would have taken the tourer had it been available. Much prefer the practicality of an estate and I do think they look better too. It's not so much outright capacity as flexibility of loading and use of height and space generally.

Touring. Looks better and cooler, more practical especially with the rear glass hatch and comfort access.
