I Love the '80's
In trying to find some pictures of TCR racing ca sets I found this and thought some of you may like to remind yourself of your childhood in the '80's

When I was little it was still the '50s
Thank God I don't remember one thing about it! We did have electricity though! TV - no. Telephone - no. Video recorders - no. Games consoles - no MP3 players - no Computers - no Fuel injection - no Standard heaters in cars - no Disc brakes - no Power steering - no The list goes on - bit like the Dark Ages!!! |

Had already grown up by the 80's and was hard at work - fave stuff from the 60's/70's: Tonka toys, I had a Spudmatic (real gangsta ), Captain Scarlet SPV, UFO Interceptor and Shado mobile, Scalextric (seem to recall a white BMW 3 series and a white Porsche 935 - think it might have been in Martini colours), and a Stars Wars light sabre - always useful for clobbering my bruv

I really wanted one of those. I had a matchbox track, with a couple of chicanes, but I longed to change lanes at the touch of a button with a yearning that I can't begin to express. Did they actually work? Oh .... my .... God .......just looked at the photo's and there it is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/unloveable/2418792748/ Cardboard model of the Deathstar. Quite simply the best toy in the history of the world ever. It even had a working trash compactor (made of cardboard and you had to push the wall yourself, but it did work!!!). To think ... somewhere in the world it still exists. I so wish I had one at home, with my childhood set of Star Wars figures (including a spare Luke Skywalker in orange x'wing jumpsuit that I singed with a lighter to make him look like he had just crash landed on Dagobah). Christ. Deep Purple, along with the Who, Led Zep, Black Sabbath and the Stones represent some of the greatest musicians to ever commit to a record. Out of Deep Purple came Ian Gillan (The Ian Gillan Band, Black Sabbath) , Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover, (Rainbow) and David Coverdale, Jon Lord & Ian Paice, (Whitesnake). They are the fathers of modern rock music. WIKIPEDIA...Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertfordshire in 1968.[1] Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although some band members have tried not to categorize themselves as any one genre.[2] The band also incorporated pop and progressive rock elements.[3] They were once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's loudest band,[3][4][5] and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.[6][7][8][9] Deep Purple was ranked #22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock program.[10] Hippies! rant over.

Yes, those ladies had great hair, typical 1980's. Mine would go like that if it wasn't for Frizzease. Happy, carefree days. |
