d'you read both the threads? its a misunderstanding, i think. its just that bmw moved from obd to some other format and the 3/08 cars need a different adapter to be tuned. its called something like d-can now.
anyway, i'm not worried, i looked on the doorsill of my car and it says 2/08 production.

Even if there is a tune alarm built into mid-3/08 and on production cars, I'm sure the tuners will have a workaround. I just won't be getting mine tuned as quick as I thought now.

anyway, it seems like this will just boost the dinan sales, and possibly create a monopoly and increase the dinan price. sounds like an antitrust violation, lol. is there a site somewhere that shows which program updates bmw has released for the cars? would it be a tsb? if it does not prevent the piggybacks from working, but just makes the car store an extended code, whatever that means, it seems like this creates a market for a device that will simply clear the code.

I belive available readers can already be used to clear codes.
I don't know why everyone is so secretive about tuning... I know I have a good dealer that won't screw me out of legitimate repairs, they've really gone to bat for me in the past, and conversly, I'm not going to screw them out of anything if a piggy breaks it.

From the Dinan website:
"Currently, Dinan software is applicable for vehicles equipped with the MSD v80.0 DME (engine management computer). Vehicles equipped with the MSD v81.0 DME are not yet supported. For the most part, the production date break appears to be 3/08, however this is not an absolute so it is best to check the DME label. " |

Anyone seen any information yet on wether or not this ACTUALLY allows the ECU to make measurements regarding impedance and conductivity in its own circuits that it couldn't before?

Are you asking if there really is an issue with the new ECU? (Sorry if this is a dumb question.)

I stopped by my local BMW parts and service center today and they have a guy who currently is their Dinan Tech Representative. They also have an actual Dinan tech that does the installations of the Dinan software on site. He told me today that not all BMW 135i's produced after that date have the "new" computer. He said that BMW puts it in cars on a random basis. He told me when I get my car to come down and he will let me know if its the old or new system. He also said that if I do have the new system, Dinan is for sure that they will have something for us shortly.
