My M3 is Here!

Got a call that my M3 is at the dealership! Going tomorrow to pick it up. It's been a long wait (since top of February) so I'm more than ready! Can't wait to post some pics!

Ok...here it is!

Finally picked up my M3 today! Almost 110 days from ordering to delivery. Dealer said it's almost the longest he's ever seen! Just my luck.

Got the car with every single option available. Originally, I had everything but the rear shades and decided, why not, might as well go for everything so threw in the shades after the car was ordered. Turned out to be a good addition - kept the heat from building up on the ride home.

Only question now is whether I do the Simoniz wax sealant and 3M Clear Bra from the dealer - they have a Colorado 'special' for $1295 ($200 off). Seems way out of line expensive but not sure who else can do it for me. Also, read some not so nice things about 3M on the Board.

Thoughts appreciated as always! Glad to FINALLY join the official M3 Owner's Club!

Looks great, another E90 around town! Fantastic combo BTW. Who was your salesperson at Murray? I was actually over there today taking the Dinan 135 for a spin, nice ride.

As for your other questions, I personally would never go for some overpriced and (not good) "sealant". As for the bra, I've read the same stories about 3M but have plenty of friends that have used it without issues. I chose not to do a clearbra, just don't like the look of the line on a black (Jet for me) car. If you do it, just ask around at different places. Prices vary a lot depending on what coverage you get. If you do it, I would do at least the first ~18" of hood or if you can, do up to the front of the power dome. Also do A-pillars, mirrors and the full bumper (the last one costing the most by far.)

Off topic, in your sig you say 2004 M5 - ???

Salesman was Richard Schutt. He is just terrific. He told me about the Dinan 135. It sounds just incredible.

Thanks for the intel on the sealant and clear bra.

Oops on the sig...M5 was actually an '03 (last year of that model). I always think of it as an '04 since that's when I got it. Good catch. Made the correction!

Congrats... she's a beauty. Look forward to seeing her in person. You should do the Spring Drive this coming weekend. I know from your posts that you've been waiting awhile, glad to hear your in the driver's seat.

The are a few threads (one under regional and a couple under the tech section) that talk about clear bras. I read a bunch and felt comfortable with the 3M.

I don't know about the Simoniz sealant, that seems like BS, but I am a fan of the clear bra, expecially on Colorado roads from sanding in the winter to debris in the summer. I deliberated for a while and ultimately went to IDS. Great rep. Do a lot of the dealers, etc. I got a quote from them for $1,200 for just the clear bra, ouch. But with my CAs help, the dealer had IDS do it before I took delivery, clear bra and window tint for $1,200. Good deal.

Details:
3M Clear Bra; full bumper, headlights, fenders to flare, side mirrors, and 24" hood, which worked perfectly, going about 2-3" up the power dome, giving it some protection as well. Many dealers offer to do the bra, but only go 12" or maybe 18". If they do it, make them go further up. There is a light line, as Signes said, but nothing bothersome for me. Especially, since I would be very unhappy to start seeing chips on the nose. I also went back after and had them do a "golf club strip" on the rear bumper by the trunk. About 3" wide and 3' or so, long. Another $40. Window tint was all around (except windshield) to legal limit. With dark interior, looks just fine. One note, as the windows "crack" a bit when the doors close and the interior panel is so tight against the interior glass, sometimes the corners come up before the tint has fully cured. This is fairly common on BMWs, I understand. Heating up the corner of the tint, on application, easily prevents this. Wherever you go, just tell them.

Good luck. Again, look forward to seeing your ride.

Rags at Advance Clear Mask in Boulder did my 09 M3 with 3M. I highly recommend him also. We tried 48 inches with 3M and its just too big to keep the bubbles out. I stuck with the 18 inches and did the bumper, splash guards, lights, fuel cap, and golf package. He stands behind his work.
