driver door damage while on dealer hoist :(

the bottom of my driver side door got caught on the hoist while the car is coming down, dealer told me they gonna have the bodyshop repair this and will be ready earlier tomorrow, Tuesday.

But now come to think of it, it must've taken a tremendous amoutn of force to ahve the bottom of the door bented like that, I am afraid the hinges/internal mechanism of the driver side door might be compromised and problems may creep up if not now, but in the future?

What do u guys think?

holy damn, hope you're not paying for that out of your pocket well you shouldn't at least. looks like they dropped your car on the hoist not just getting caught on the way down. you should definitely check it out in person and see if everything still lines up right

I checked it out in person and took that picture myself
they are going to pay for the cosmetic repair cost but my concern now is....

wouldn't it take a tremendous amount of force for it to bent like that? is the hinge/other mechanical parts damaged which I cannot see? If they insist they have inspected with the door taken out that the internals are fine and I find problems later on... can I hold them accountable?

I mean even if they tell me it's mechanically sound, there's no way I can make sure unless they replace the entire door assembly, correct?

I have a strange feeling that this was another beautiful "mistake" done by our local dealership at Town+Country BMW.

Peanutboy.. can you let us know which dealership did this to you? I would be enraged if I found out they did this to my car..

Please let the GTA e90 community know...

If they're sending it out to a bodyshop, then I think it'll be fine. C'mon, that's what body shops do for a living. If they can line up a door, then they shouldn't be in the business.

Your best line of defense is you. If it doesn't close properly, then don't accept it back until it does.

Oh, and you should also be asking for some compensation for the inconvenience and damages to your resale value. Personally, I'd accept an M3 loaner for the couple of weeks it's gonna take...

It is not T&C, it's actually Durham.

With all the horror stories I've heard about the other, mostly T&C and Autohaus, I am shying away from them and opted for Durham..... and this happened

At first I didn't think it was that bad, at least cosmetically but as I thought about it more, what about the internals? the hinges? will it mess up the sensors? what if it happens when I am out of warranty.... all these came to mine....

The SA said he was gonna call me back before end of day Friday but I haven't hard from him still, called this afternoon the receptionist said he's on training and is gone for the rest of the day... transferred me to service manager and got his voicemail, left him one....

Ultimately I'd like them to replace the door to avoid any future complications, who knows what this accident might have done to all the door parts? but of course they aren't gonna honour that since it'd cost them a fortune to replace the entire door!

perhaps I can get them to put a little note on the service report when I get my car back to say the dealer will be responsible for any future problems this door may have due to the accident which has happened, but I doubt that'd want to do that either....

so the saga continues.....

yeah, definitely!

but my concern remains... what if problems start to creep up a month down the road? a year down the road, 3 yrs down the road? hmm....

and yeah it's now gonna show up on a UVIP report and hurt my resale value, what should I ask of them to compensate? I wish they gave me a stick (i miss driving stick)as a loaner, let alone an M3, but they gave me an auto 328 sedan

they are likely not gonna replace the door as the damage as viewed by them, aint too serious, some minor body work will fix it, but i gotta make sure when I get the car back that i slam the door shut a few times to make sure nothing come loose or the door doesn't come off altogether....

Ouch, that sucks man!

Do you own or lease? If you lease and you know you are giving the car back, make sure you get a written statement of what happened so if any issue on lease return, at least you have something to fall back on. Maybe even call up BMW Finance now and let them know and have a record of it. If you own, I would expect you have the right to have this independantly inspected by a 3rd party to ensure the correct repairs are done.

I don't think this will show up on UVIP, car proof, car fax, etc... since this is not going through insurance nor was it reported at the collision centre. However if you own and evetually sell the car and someone asks you if you had any body work done then you would have to disclose this and this could hurt your resale value. I have no idea on what, if anything you can be compensated for this but it seems like you should be?

thanks for all the replies!

finally got my car back tonight (6ish, SA was already gone), repaired, fresh paint but still one blemish... hmm maybe just need a dab of touchup paint?

as compensation for the damage and inconveniences they've caused, they applied a fresh coat of paint on my acs rep lip spoiler, the shade of white is "yellowing"

they wouldn't install it for me though, something I'd get done when I leave my car for suspension work tomorrow, hopefully everything will be done by tomorrow!

thanks everyone for the sympathy

got the car back and been driving for a couple of days now... that little blemish I mentioned not on the door but on the rockerpanel, my SA said to bring the car in if I am in the area and they can have it touched up for me, Durham's been good to me so far, went there for oilchange, now the BMW assist programming, wish they hadn't dented my door

I guess I'll still go back for future work.... better than some other dealers

Hey David, I am sure you remember me, but my initials aren't CW, it's close
yeah, my SA and the service manager compensated the damage with the repair + putting a fresh coat of paint onto my acs style lip, they wouldn't do the install for me which I was able to over the weekend though, it was settled in a very professional way but I wish this has never happened....

As to the car, I was able to get the colour of my choice (AW) and a few more options (prem pkg, logic 7...etc) in another dealership.... hopefully we can do business in the future!
