Garage List 2010 TTRS [9.00]

So long S5...........:(
Well having made the decision to change the S5 I spent much time testing two cars. Porsche Cayman S and the TTRS and I was fortunate enough to drive them back to back one day which made my mind up for me. I plumped for the little Terrier TTRS in the end based on the sublime engine and the whole everyday package. I've had a Cayman S as you know and I still like them (hard not to) and they've improved the mid-range and BHP noticeably but I thought I'd have something a little different. Leeds OPC have a very tasty 997 T in the showroom on a '09 plate........if only.
Anyhow, back to reality and the TTRS............got it last Tuesday afternoon and done 680 miles so officially run in now lol and had it detailed by my mate John over Sunday and Monday (cheers John as always x). So far so good. Really pleased with the engine, the handling, the brakes......well all of it really. The growl it makes is fantastic and the grip is just phenominal and it's so flickable. Feedback through the steering wheel is not as pronounced as in the Cayman S but there is good feedback there. The standard short shift gearlever is very good, The speed at which you can enter, drive through and out of the corners in the TTRS is so accomplished and the constant wave of torque on tap is very reminiscent of the Porsche Turbo, but obviously on a lesser scale power wise. Even 1st to 2nd in sport mode is similar ie. easy to snatch the gear change as the power is there - bang - as you change up. Defo. a feel good factor with accompanying noise. I am enjoying driving the car and it puts a smile on my face. Still interested in the RS5 but the bugger is still not out yet so for now here is my new car which was a stock showroom car with a very good spec on it including a sports exhaust. Light was fading a bit last night but hey at least it wasn't raining! My plate is going on it soon btw. |

Does look good Helen. How much was she?
Thinking purely of re-sale value, why didn't you wait till 1/09/2010.

Very nice Helen, not my cup of tea, I have never warmed to the TT shape but nevertheless, it looks like a little rocket. Standard Toyo tyres?? That surprises. Did you consider the roadster or do you not 'do' 'verts?

Looks gorgeous H. Not seen that colour before but it's nice. I agree that the interior is great. Enjoy it (until the RS5 arrives ).

Thanks Guys.
Carl - Believe me we spent many a long hour with dealers at both Porsche and Audi and had I not got the deal I was happy with I would have walked and got the Cayman S basically. But all the dealers we visited are all in the JCT 600 group and of course are now all under the VW umbrella. To get it as a 01/09/2010 they couldn't have done the deal they did with certain discounts and my trade in value etc. They've sold the S5 already I found out today! I didn't want to waffle on as usual lol and I haven't really had chance to fully 'explore' the cars potential as I've been running it in. My favourite twisty bit of road so far I've got the TTRS through at the same speed as the 997 T so err, yep, it grips like shit to a blanket.......such fun it really is. Had read about Andrew's TTRS Steve and there's some tuners out there playing big time with the engine apparently. Never feel sexy luv at my age. Friggn Billy Joel keeps coming up on the ipod lol.............I need to sort out my play list. What extremes, I've got Whitesnake on there too lol. I wanted a black one but they're only bringing in 320 coupes this year and 80 roadsters so beggars can't be choosers and this one I got at the right deal and the spec. is very good. Electric seats are a good option as imo you can get a really good driving position with electric seats and the adaptive headlights are a novelty at first. What can I say Will...........hand on heart it doesn't sound quite as nice as the S5 as that V8 rumble is rather special imo. But this one has different ranges of exhaust and engine note if that makes sense. Starts off with quite a warble, then a sort of rasp as the turbo spools up to a magnificent almighty growl above 5k revs and with the sports exhaust on sounds deeper than the standard system, then press the 'S' button and open the 'flaps' lol and it really is pretty loud but in a nice way. The 5 cylinder engine makes quite a unique exhaust note and the fifth cylinder 'pops' when you take your foot off the accelerator at higher revs. They've definitely spent some time getting the noise right to stir the senses I'd say. The MPG figures are a rare sight too. Last edited by beemerbird; 08-24-2010 at 03:11 PM.. |

As I said earlier Helen, the car looks awesome - that third pic down, showing it arse is excellent and I think it looks it's best from that angle.
The detail has really brought out the shine - enjoy (PS: Look forward to seeing it at the Stafford Meet???!!) |

Never been into verts Peter tbh but I did have a roadster for the day as one of my 'test' cars. Quote:
Manual say 1000 kilometres Kevin, no more than two thirds throttle so that's what I did. You do get a free litre of oil with the car too but as yet, it hasn't used any. They're dry sump lubrication like Porsche engines so chances are it may use some oil as Porsches definitely do. |
