Good Deal ?? Good Tv ??
So im trying to twist the girlfriends arm into us getting a new TV for our new home.
I’ve seen this one http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung...906498-pdt.htm in Currys and the price seems good for what you get and in the shop the picture seemed great... anyone got one or can give me some advice?

If it's the 42" LG you mean, then my mate just picked one up from there on Friday. He mounted it yesterday and is well happy with it. Says the quality is spot on for the £'s

Got one of those LG's on my office wall for Powerpoint presentations
It loses some vibrancy at the edges so have a good look first otherwise a fine TV.

If it's the 50" you want, save yourself £40odd by buying on Amazon

I would not get a cheap plasma. Spend a little more and get a samsumg LCD or (even better) LED.
50 inch is also too big IMO. Unless you have a properly massive lounge a 42 inch will be fine. |

I have Samsung 42" plasma on my wall, its been 4 years in service, still works perfect. Also have 32" Samsung LCD, picture quality better on LCD than on plasma, but its my second LCD TV in 4 years time. Bought both TV same time, plasma seems to last longer.

If you see a model that takes your fancy just google it and you should find loads of 'professional' standard reviews. LCD's were historically weak in bright rooms and suffered from degradation in picture quality when the backlight is used. I looked for one that had a high contrast ratio and good reviews for movement, which is another LCD issue. |

Agreed, picture quality is a pirioty but also your room environment and the type of TV you watch.
LCD: Good for brighter rooms / near window (less reflection), not so good watching in the dark (you get very greyish blacks). Better for computer / Games Console use (no burn in or image retention)..The LED Backlight screens are improved from LCD but still expensive Plasmas: Very natural looking picture (almost like a Tube TV...not as bright or computer like as a LCD). Very good with fast moving objects (ie Football matches..no blur or smears like some LCDs). Very cinematic watching a film with the Lights turned down (vs LCD) Try not to judge too much on picture quality when a TV is displayed in Currys/Comet becuase they are always set up to look good in a brightly lit shop enviroment..go to somewhere like John Lewis/Bentalls where they have a more ambient shopfloor/demo room. Here are some links to good review sites (some are really in depth but does have helpful details) http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ http://www.avforums.com/forums/tvs/ Hope this helps. Wil

Wot he said. I have the lg Led and it is a beautiful tv. Mate brought round a pricey blu ray player and vs my ps3, really showed off what this puppy can do. You obviously need a home theatre kit to add to the experience as the lg sound isn't great , but then what tv is?
