Upsizing question
I've got an 07 328XI with 16" wheels with RFT and I'm thinking about upsizing to 17" wheels and non RFT tires and wanted to know how this will effect ride and what if any suggestions you'd have for me. I'm a noob when it comes to tires and wheels so any help would be appreciated. I really like style 162 wheels but I see where they only come in 18's and don't know if that would be too radical of an upsize. Thanks in advance.

I am no rocket scientist or anything. But you should have no problem up-sizing to 17'' or even 18'' wheels. This past summer I had 18'' wheels non RFT, absolutely no problems what so ever. Except for the fact that you'll feel every little spec of elevation on the asphalt.
and please do , It works! |

When you upsize, you are increasing the rim size and decreasing the tire profile. With a 16" rim/tire, you have a large profile (amount of tire from rim to ground). When you decrease the profile, your ride will get increasingly harsher, but going from a 16 to 17 shouldnt affect your ride at all. Its when you go up to 20"+ when your ride deteriorates significantly compared to a 16 or 17". Considering BMW has 19" factory wheels/tires should tell you that they dont think its too radical to run.

Shouldn't dumping the runflats compensate for any gained ride harshness that larger wheels would create? Even if I don't get new wheels I'd still like to get rid of the runflats.

Most report a similar or even softer ride when moving from factory sized run flat to one wheel size higher non run flats .
