162's and All Seasons = Sacrilege?

The Bridgestone RE050A's are nearly toast. So it's time to go shopping for replacements. Given my wagon has not and will not see a track, I don't see any reason to keep using high treadwear tires on it. I'm quite happy to switch to A/S's - I have dedicated winters (Pilot Alpin PA3's) for my 16" stock rims. However the question is - can an H/V rated tire provide any level of interest on back roads? My thoughts are that yes, in a 40 and 35 series profile it can't get so squishy that all fun is gone. Obviously the max grip is not going to be remotely the same, but I don't think I've pushed the boundaries of what the RE050A's can offer either (Xdrive + non sports suspension != M3). This is my daily driver.

Suggestions for summer tires that offer a decent ride and longish treadlife? All seasons? I notice a lot of people are fans of the Conti DWS - is going down even further on the performance chain going to make my ride into a Benz?

Update: it appears there aren't many options for H/V rated tires in this size...

Conti DWS or Michelin PS2 A/S+ .. either are a great choice. The Conti's are really popular right now. I have the Michelin's on my 335i sedan, and they perform great. Believe me, you won't miss the Bridgestone runflats, either...!
